    Wanted FST Door Top Bows

I think the door top bows for the hardtop are different than the ones for the FST. The hard top ones bolt to the fiberglass roof and the soft top ones have a way of retaining the top vinyl in place over the doors. Maybe someone can confirm this? Thanks.

    Wanted  FST Door Top Bows

Have a '71 FJ40 factory soft top (FST) with original top bows EXCEPT I am missing the pieces that form the top of the door frames. These "door top bows" connect the top of the B-pillar posts to the top corners of the windshield. I'm looking for original pieces. Real Steel Cruisers makes nice...

    Factory Soft Top Materials Used?

Yeah I might see if the original door vinyl is cleanable and the one hole patchable instead of having them recovered. Will make restoration of the metal parts a bit challenging but I am always up for the challenge.

    Factory Soft Top Materials Used?

Me again... I just removed the hinge on my "tan" vinyl door... it's white underneath!

    Factory Soft Top Materials Used?

Thanks all - very helpful! Puzzled over my doors maybe being Kayline recovered... prior owners say doors are original. Is it possible my "tan" doors are just faded and stained original white vinyl? Whitey, don't suppose you have another serviceable OEM top, do you? :) Assuming I need to go...

    Factory Soft Top Materials Used?

I’m restoring a ’71 FJ40 factory soft top and would welcome help on what soft materials were originally used. My soft top is long gone (replaced by a hard top early in its life) but the truck always kept its original soft doors. The soft doors are a tan vinyl with the interior backing a...

    1F compression specs

I'm coming in to this old thread because I am rebuilding the 1F in my '71 Cruiser and have similar questions about compression, heads, and such. Plus, I am north of Allentown, PA in Jim's neck of the woods so I would love to get names and references for the good machine shops mentioned in this...

Factory Radio Location for a '71?

To close the loop here on the question of where the speaker was located for the dealer-installed Fujitsu Ten radio, I was able to find the original owner of my truck. She said the speaker was on the firewall in front of the passenger seat. She said "if the person in the passenger seat put...

Factory Radio Location for a '71?

Upon closer inspection (ie, I put my glasses on), yes the two column bolts held a bracket in the past, and the bolt in between looks like it held the ground wire. Still searching for original speaker location... there are two holes in the glove box floor right behind the door hinge and evidence...

Factory Radio Location for a '71?

JohnnyC... thanks so much... sorry I did not find that earlier thread. Here is a pic of my steering column mount. It is not apparent that the two end bolts once held a bracket, but there is a single bolt on the left side of the column that clearly held something. Is that the bolt that held the...

Factory Radio Location for a '71?

Need help learning where the radio was installed in my '71 FJ40 FST. It came with the Fujitsu AM radio Part No. 08600-00013. I have the original owner's guide and Warranty Registration Card to prove this, plus it has what looks to be a factory antenna mounted just in front of the driver's side...

    Slight harmonic vibration

Parnoren: my transfer case "feel" through the lever doesn't vary, so suspect it's not that. Plus, if it's the transfer case, the vibes wouldn't go away when taking it out of OD, as all transfer case speeds/loads do not change whether in OD or not. I will live with this slight annoyance (maybe...

    Slight harmonic vibration

Kreiser, it is when driving. It's felt through my heels on the floorboard (and slightly audibly) between 1500-2000 RPM when in OD (42-56 mph) and under slight load. It is most noticeable right after trans drops into OD gear when accelerating normally. I can't replicate the vibration running the...

    Front Diff Problem

Thanks SmoothLC. Learned about A-TRACK and how it likely killed my diff when I lost traction on the snowy slope. I'm comparing ARB+rebuild vs new OEM dif vs used low-mileage diff (if any are left unblown!). I don't go wheeling, it's a street vehicle.

    Slight harmonic vibration

Hi, I am the original poster. I still have the pulsing harmonic between 1500-2000 rpm after it drops into OD. I have rotated and re-balanced the wheels, took the engine cover off, placed towels between the spare and the body, tightened the spare against the rear cross member, tried driving...
