Fritz the 1978 FJ40 - Back from a Columbia Vacation

Try cracking the throttle just a bit when you start a hot engine, that often will shorten the cranking time needed. I'll be restoring my cooling fan as well, mostly just because it's a unique piece of automotive history. :D

Very cool. I don't know if I'd worry about the carb cooling fan. They were mostly a band aid due to all the other emissions nonsense from that era. If you get the rest of the truck dialed in, (fuel and ignition related) you probably won't see any benefit from the fan. I'll be watching...

    Tow Receiver Bolts

Toyota part number for the LX integral hitch receiver torx head bolts is: 90148-12003 These will fit the built-in receiver crossmember in the face of the rear bumper, not the aftermarket style hitch that bolts on below the frame.

Happy to share the information. The ID dimensions are what I've found noted in parts books/diagrams/etc. I've been meaning to order the ones with question marks to verify, but the rest I have checked. The wire loop style are used on 1970's era vehicles, but some carried over into the 1980's...

Yes, that's 100% accurate, the constant tension have a pretty narrow range of diameters they'll clamp correctly on. I have a list of all the sizes I know of, with diameters and part numbers. Glad to hear you have not had issues with the worm drive style.

Nice work on the hose replacements! I can highly recommend throwing away the worm drive style hose clamps, and using the Toyota constant tension style. I solved a whole bunch of leaks on my 80 series that way. (I know, the last thing you want to do is take any hoses off again...!)

    Hitch Receiver, OEM Through Bumper

That bolt pattern is for the pintle style hitch, not a receiver tube. The only factory receiver was the LX style here: https://forum.ih8mud.com/threads/adding-an-lx-integrated-hitch-to-an-lc.1348590/ Something like post 31 above Hitch Receiver, OEM Through Bumper -...

1984 missing air and heat knobs, what to consider?

On a Mid-East market model, I would not be surprised to find it has no heater or AC installed. You're sure there's more than an AC compressor installed?

    Builds Car souq pickup

Usually there is an idle speed adjustment screw that sets the idle speed RPM. There should be a tiny amount of slack in the throttle cable when the linkage rests against the idle speed screw. If the cable tension is being used to set the idle speed, that may be why your idle speed wanders...
