Need ideas FJ60 vs. FJ40 axle swap

I just completed a 60 knuckle swap, It took about 8 hours from start to finish. If you are just looking for the brakes and birfs, it is much easier to do the knuckle swap vs. the whole axle.

    Firewall cleanup advice

I've been putting a base coat of master series primer and paint as a rust preventer under my final paint job; however, when I got to my engine bay there was no rust to speak of after 38 years. I'm just going to sand, primer and paint with regular paint.

    60 Power Steering Box installation

After crawling under there and taking a good look at where the frame meets the cross member from behind, I realized that it would be a very bad idea to install the box with no plate re-inforcement of the frame. I made a cardboard template of the frame going into the crossmember and used it to...

    Quick brake swap question

The arms use different tie rod ends. If you have the donor 62 you can shorten those tie rods and use the knuckles, arms and tie rods. The tie rods are also bigger on the 62 so you can't just swap the ends either, it's all or nothing.

Does OME not have a 4" lift kit for FJ40?

I read that OME has not made a 4" lift kit because they are unable to offer a kit that provides the kind of ride quality that is expected of their name. Until they can do that, there will be no 4' for the 40. I think read that on their site.

That sounds good. Did you weld the sleeves in, or just bolt the box right up?

    60 Power Steering Box installation

I've seen people weld a bracket to the frame and attach the box to that, and I've seen people sleeve bolt holes and bolt it directly to the frame with no bracket. Is one method better than the other? I would like to tackle this tonight and do it only once so any help is much appreciated. Thanks...

    Ok...so which would be easier?

I'm just about to start this exact conversion. I bought everything I need for the knuckle rebuild from Kurt at Cruiser Outfitters. He will tell you exactly what you need and give you a couple different options depending on your budget and the level of quality you are looking for. I thought about...

Chevy eng/trans and toyota transfer case adapter?

If you already have the 10 spline output shaft on your Muncie 465, you can buy the conversion kit from classic cruisers for $375. You will just have to tap the output shaft yourself or have a machine shop do it for you. The kit comes with the bolt you will use once the shaft is tapped.

    SM465/Orion Chevota Clutch

This is the write up I was studying before I changed my mind on using my 465. You will not be using the same adaptor plate as the one he used to mate his tranny and transfer case, but you will be using the same components from the tranny forward. FJ40 - SM465 and early transfer install

    SM465/Orion Chevota Clutch

You are right about the needing the chevy bellhousing. They are pretty easy to find at the junk yard. Search SM 465 and you will find a pretty good write up on it. I will search for it as well and post it if I find it.
