Well…I decided to go with the metal 3.5” diameter pipe 12” long and the silicone 90* elbow…
I went for it because I realized there were a lot ways water can penetrate the cut up wheel liner.
When you get under there, you can see the cut up...
It might also be a good idea to put some loctite on the bolt. I've never had one pop out. I use loctite on the LCA , UCA, and panhard bar bolts, but have not used it previously on a shock bolt. I might next time.
Bolts and nuts seem like good spare parts to carry for trail fixes. I lost the top nut of my rear icon shock and now I carry a spare nut and bushings.
Also, I carry large bolts and nuts that hopefully fit the lower shocks and/or lower rear arms...
Everyone here is aware of how terrible the interior pull handle is on the barn door and just how flimsy/brittle it can be. I had some flat stock laying around and whipped up a little something to remedy the issue. Finish is some rattle can bed liner.
You keeping the 8.0? If you are going through the effort of a re-gear and locker, I would strongly (no pun intended) advise an 8.2 swap instead with 4.56 gears (this is the highest aftermarket gearset offered for a 8.2). By far the best money...
34s are supposed to be not as bad as 35s like you can keep your fender liners to protect the air intake opening, but require BMC, require hammering the pinch welds, and more hammering and trimming.
And yes, the more negative the offset, the more...
I was running 285/70R17 Nitto ridge grapplers without a BMC and no rub.
However, I was on 3.7* caster with total chaos UCAs and no front sway bar on 17x9 -12 wheels and later 17x7.5 zero offset wheels.
No rubbing at all. But hen I went 34s and...
Well…I changed my mind. I put back the stock rubber end cap and covered it with a water/dust sock.
I still have 75% of my wheel liner in there to protect against water splashes
The water sock is also called a pre filter that’s dust and...
Hidden snorkel going in. I hope this works.
At first I tried a 4” diameter rigid metal pipe with a 90* silicone elbow (4” to 3.5” elbow), but that didn’t fit.
So, I took the stock factory rubber intake end and cut the end and attached it to a...
Just so you know, the gx470 front IFS reduces your droop (downtravel) for every inch you lift (increases uptravel that you can’t use).
Lifting the front 2 1/4” with aftermarket shocks and removing the front sway bar gives you the best front...
I have a 2003, so no SAIS on mine.
However, Hawkeye Garage just posted a YouTube video and posted on GXOR about his new fix for this issue.
He had problems with bypass kits, so he and his buddy posted what they call a permanent fix that you can DIY
Well…it seems that Gold Mountain really gave me more minor issues than I thought.
Besides getting my rims, tires, rock sliders, exhaust tailpipe, and engine/transmission skids more scratches than ever before…it also ate one of my front engine...
@HomersCanyonero makes great points - even at 78K, these rigs are going to need work. You're just getting what is probably going to be a better and cleaner example. Including the purchase price, I've put well over $20K into my GX470, which I...
