Hello, finally decided to register after browsing for a couple years. Bought my FJ a couple years ago, it was a time capsule, almost entirely unaltered in very nice condition. Had plenty of shoddy repairs over the years prior to my ownership and spent about the 1st year getting reverted to OE and then promptly upgraded.

I’ve decided to put it up for sale on Bring a Trailer. It’ll be a few weeks before the auction goes live.

Hi all. Been lurking for a while, registered recently, and just bought my first LC yesterday. It's been a California car all its life and the family we bought it from has taken excellent care of it since 2004. It had an engine rebuild at 255k and runs amazingly well. I love it!

1. 1996 FZJ 80
2. Jenna
3. I'll edit this once she tells us her name.
4. 325,569(!)
5. None yet, unless you the trailer hitch, WeatherTech floor and cargo liners, and WetOkole neoprene waterproof seat covers count as mods. Planning to redo the wood dash trims, etc.
6. Regular use, adventuring, and when I need something bigger than my '96 Miata (not hard to do!).
7. Photo by original owner but I'll take some soon.

The 80 spent 1 month at the the local Toyota shop getting TRD Bilstein suspension, drive train service, 4wd service, axle rebuilds, brakes, power steering, and more. Painted quicksand in October 2020.

How did you import yours? Looking to do the same.

I picked this LC up last January but I haven't had a chance to do much with it or post on here yet so here it is.

1. Year and model - 1997 FZJ80 Triple Locked 40th Anniversary Edition #0833
2. Name of owner - David
3. Name of rig - Undecided
4. Mileage - 95K
5. Mods - OME 2" lift, Prinsu rack, Slee rear swing out bumper, ARB front bumper, 12k SB winch, 3.11 T-case gears, Center differential lock switch, WitsEnd Modded Blue Fan Clutch, Dobinsons rear drawers, and Marathon seat covers. Stock wheels with 285 75 R16 muds.
6. How the truck is used - Camping and wheeling trips along with hunting and shed hunting adventures. It also is the tow pig for my off-road RTT trailer.

I spent a long time looking for this rig. I spent the first month updating the maintenance items, plugs, valve cover gasket, intake manifold gasket, PCV valve and hoses, distributor o-ring, front main seal, and oil pump seal. The truck was essentially stock when I bought it aside from the headlights and the OME lift and roof basket. After the maintenance was up to snuff I started with the bumpers, new roof rack, T-case gears and drawers. I have big plans for it including a 4.88 regear, 75 mm Slinky suspension, 37's, a set of stock headlights (sourced them on craigslist last week and they are on there way now), and some TG DIY rock sliders.

I will include some pictures of the rig when I bought it and basically how it sits now. It is not my DD and is garaged unless we are ready for an adventure. I expect to hang onto this truck for a long long time.

My JDM Cruiser was looking too nice to keep wheeling as hard as I like so we added a more suitable "cruiser" to the line up. Plan is for huge tires and some Monstaliner.

I have just purchase it .. It will be on a boat in 2-3 weeks .. It
will take about 3 weeks to hit Galveston TX .. So mid October ..
Purchase ~$30k .. I am selling the BJ70 as it would cost $20k
to do an engine swap .. Even though I like the BJ70 and
especially its looks, I have decided that is will be cheaper to
go this direction and have a vehicle with much lower mileage ..

I purchase this vehicle from Cars From Japan .. I was given an
$800 discount because I told the guy I would commit to buy
within 24 hours and that was enough to get a discount .. I
attempted to purchase a 1996 vehicle but I was told by the
seller Kengi San that I could only purchase vehicles that were
25 years or older .. Lots of 1900-1995 vehicles for sale .. This
one was the only one with the 24v engine ..

Moving to New Mexico for a job .. LOT's of great hunting
& Fishing there .. Will be looking to see If I can't get my
14 ft camper trailer lifted so that I can drag it into the
outback of New Mexico ..
Received my vehicle 01/21/2021 .. Sitting for a few months in Japan and then a 1 month trip from Japan and then another month for the Vehicle Carrier to get their stuff strait (1 Star for Turbo Group Transport) my vehicle arrived .. When the picked up my vehicle from the port, the batteries were dead .. I told the guy I want to put new batteries in the vehicle but he insisted that he could jump both batteries and then run it for about an hour for them to charge up .. By the time my vehicle arrived the batteries were dead and they could not remove it from the Vehicle Carrier and I had to rush out and buy new batteries .. Those with dual batteries know Toyota use a Right Hand Positive for one battery and the other battery is the opposite polarity .. This was a BONE HEAD STUPID MOVE ON TOYOTA's PART .. The battery lugs are different in the US than they are in Japan .. There is a taper to the battery terminals and the to of the lugs just don't have much meat on the terminals .. So, I am going to have to have those replaced and I am also going to have them use longer cable so I can run BOTH BATTERIES WITH THE HOT SIDE ON THE RIGHT .. 27F BATTERY .. I have a 27DC and 27F in the vehicle now .. It cranks up very quickly ..

I was right about the suspension coils .. It appears to have a 2" lift already on the vehicle .. The springs are a silver blue .. I'm thinking they are King Coils but not sure .. The shocks look like the need replacing .. They have small pistons so I will most likely go with Kings because they have very large pistons and very little shock fade when they get worked ..

The interior looks fantastic .. The owner wasn't a smoker .. I am going to have to replace the Panasonic GPS unit .. I don't read Japanese and I don't know how to turn on my backup camera . . The new system I want to get will have both a wide angle front and back cameras ..

One thing I hate is my big 13 4E shoes .. I have to be careful to fully take my foot off the brake when I step on the gas .. No good ..

The transmission is tight .. Shifts very well .. It shifts more positively than my 2014 Crew Max Trundra .. The Tundra is a very soft shifting tranny ..

After I get the wiring done I am going to drive it around for a while to see what kind of mileage LEFTY gets .. I am planning on doing the shocks next ..

Oh, I almost forgot .. The center of my front wheel wells to the ground is ~38.5" / 978mm / 97.8cm .. The tires are about 33.25" / 851mm / 85.1cm tall with street inflation .. Can someone tell me what lift I have currently .. Is it 2 in / 50mm or 2.5 in / 62.5mm ? I need to fill up the tank as it hardly has a drop in it .. I'll post pictures tomorrow when I get Lefty washed ..
