Charge rent for any storage, scale it if you have to. Establish that now and don't have to worry about it later when it becomes a nuisance. ACC learned that the hard way, but did acquire a couple of abandoned cruisers that way too.

For me, it’s too stressful to have a mountain of “work” constantly in sight. A truck or two, sure (more if I were a bigger operation or doing lots of small repairs), but any more creates decision paralysis and nothing gets done.

100% agree. I would flip out looking at @Mudrak ‘s lot the way he has them sandwiched in waiting their turn.

I don't think anyone starts off thinking otherwise. I'm just saying put it in the fine print on your work orders or something.

Fine print: Come get your pile or I’ll park it at the car wash down the street with the keys in the ignition so you can pick it up at your convenience.

I did not originally plan to do any of this landscape work, I imagined doing it a little at a time.

So glad I did, though, as there was way more work than appeared at first glance. The amount of trash, soil, and small future-trees that had embedded themselves was insane. Easily a trailer or more to bring the grade down to where it should be.

I didn’t get a good pic of this wall before they started knocking it loose. It used to be the wall of the rear building that caught fire when they were cleaning out a Cadillac gas tank, and gas poured out into the baseboard heater

This will be a great place to stack sh!t up.

These are the kinds things that start off small and grow into trees in less than a season and start fawking up your building.

And used oil. It will give the stone a nice weathered look.

I’ve been keeping it a secret, but we buried a highly sophisticated network of waste oil piping with programmable solenoids and directional nozzles below the limestone. It’s going to look like the Bellagio for a few minutes every month when we burn off the used oil.

We needed a good backdrop for the fire show, and the old fence just wasn’t cutting it.

So down it goes...

The old fence was 6’ and getting wobbly. We’re going back at 8’ and sturdy. They don’t make good fence boards these days, so we’re using 5/4” decking. Twice the thickness of standard POS fencing. Should be stout.

The easy posts are in, and they’re just down to posts where the digging is slow going. Once those are in, it will come together quickly. Looks like they held back some limestone to top the dirty areas too.

I wasn’t planning on doing any shop work this weekend, but Dirty Rob called looking to kill a few hours, so we went and knocked out a small but important task.

I wanted to build a fence between the American Legion and my building up front to close any possible places for the human rodents to squeeze in.

Before I could do that though, I needed to demo one of the remaining windows so I could frame it in and have something to attach the fence to on my building.

He offered to do the Rippin’ an Tearin’ while I went and picked up lumber. He was wrapping up the removal when I got back.

We didn’t take any pictures, but here’s the finished product. I still need to do this to the last remaining big window.

I went by today to check out the roof. Sure enough the flue is missing it’s cap.

It must’ve blown regularly, there were several failed attempts of bailing wire still attached to it. I put a 5 gallon bucket over the exposed pipe with a cinder block to weigh it down.

Upon closer inspection, the roof wasn’t as new as it looked last time I looked, but I didn’t see anything that looked like a leak point. Hopefully this is the only thing.

The rooftop must be the place to party. I found several bottles and a prison shank up there.

There was also an Official Commemorative Souvenir Half Dollar, redeemable in trade at Festival Headquarters of the First Annual Ypsilanti Area Summer Festival in Ypsilanti Michigan, July 1974.

@dogfishlake must’ve tossed it up there when I wasn’t looking.

I grabbed the lumber for the fence yesterday, so I got that put up in the rain today.

It’s 8’, so will kill any view of the back and should keep people from squeezing through here like they could have before.

As long as drunken prison escapees don't rappel down from helicopters, your roof should be all good now.
