went up to PB cabin about 6 weeks ago. I was surprised how much it had deteriorated in the last year.
Stairs were gone, screen door was ripped off and inside the cabin. Quite a few floor boards were busted through, the kitchen was even dirtier than usual and the porch rails were barely hanging on.
Went home and built a staircase then went back this weekend and spruced it up a bit. After hanging the screen door I saw a familiar name name carved in the jam " Landcruiser Phil 2012"

few more, before and after. Brought a generator so we ran a shop vac throughout and sprayed the inside down win a light bleach mix.
Cleaned the kitchen area with bleach and other cleaners. Opened the drains so water flows. Pinned the porch rails with 3/8 x 8" lags.
Now they're solid.

Next trip.... 20 x 21 window pane, porch bench, outhouse repairs and a outside USFS style grill. my thoughts are a grill outside might keep people from cooking inside. We dropped enzymes in the out house that are supposed to liquify the waste. Smells better anyway.

Nice work, that is great to see and let's hope others respect the place and keep in good shape.
For the bench on the porch I'm thinking I'll put a kick plate across the front just off the ground, with PB Cabin cut into it.
A five foot bench , steel with 2 x 6 wood, will fit between the rail and door leaving comfortable seating for two or three.
I was afraid if the cabin falls too far in disrepair the forest service would have an excuse to tear it down for safety reasons

Hats off to you, great to see something like this

Super effort Happy to see you feeling better:)

Reach out to CSC on your next repair for help

Is the note/history from the owners still present on the inside of the door

Note: My name was NOT carved a sharpie was use for my tag

I frequent AZ cabin often and have been pleased to find other efforts in cleaning and repairing going on.

Recently visited the Boyer cabin added some light repair to help secure. Happy to see it well stock, no rodent problem and little trash or damage.

Besides, I think all the carved names are cool. They add to the history. I like seeing who's been there
over the last 70 years. ...Yes the history lesson is still hanging by the door. So far only respectful people seem to know the cabin exists.
All it will take is one bad one for the cabin to go the way Oro Belle did. I was lucky enough to have seen Oro Belle with the walls and second floor. I had my own Land Cruiser by 78 and the Bradshaws were a weekly visit

Glad to see the history lesson remains.

I agree lack of knowledge is why many AZ Cabins remain in such good shape.

The Boyer Cabin is a prime example is how remoteness is good. The cabin is in excellent shape stock with food, cookware, water, propane, clothing, all in secure boxes, and even 5 gal gas can(1/2 full) with a dated note to use for someone in need.

Great stuff Dave!!! As a CSC member I would be willing to help should you ever need it.

thanks. Being in Globe makes this drive to the cabin a 55 mile trip so even taking my time it's under an hour and a half. I was looking at the
hearth in front of the fireplace. All the stone is just piled in loose. I'm not a real mason but I was contemplating bringing up a bag of mortar
at trying to set the stone . There's evidence that people use the fireplace every now and then. Worries me that there's no fire screen
but I'm not sure how big an issue that is. I think it's code issue in the city. If I made one does anyone have experience with the size of mesh
would be proper?

Wow, good to see someone taking initiative! Thanks for your work Dave!
I'm planning the June CSC run which will include a stop at a similar cabin on the A/S, abandoned by the USFS and maintained by locals who care.

post up more pics. I like going to these places but it's even more fun to work on them while you're there

Great pics and thread! Sorta makes me a bit sad though as I've seen many over the years, (and they are not as secret as we like to hope or believe) despite folks trying to do the best they can to preserve them, get vandalized and destroyed. I'm not able to understand why anyone would want to vandalize anything, really, but even worse destroy history.

CSC adopt/main't a cabin! Love it!

Back out over the weekend. People have really been doing a good job, since I was out six months ago, keeping the place clean.
I got a wild hair and decided it needed a fire ring.
Then we decided we should clean up the approach to the fire so we laid the flagstone and split some logs for benches.
Now there's seating for a whole 4x4 group. The road is passable from the south all the way through to Board Tree but it's rough.
It will take a few groups of dedicated or crazy drivers to get it ready for easier travel.
