just a cleanin? what did you use? looks much better BTW.

Thanks. I'm really happy with it. I scrubbed it with simple green, wet sanded, rubbing compound and waxed. It all started with the knobs. I read a thread about refurbishing the knobs and couldn't stop there. The gauge cluster, radio, transfer lever, ashtray and pocket door were all removed and cleaned separately.

looks great

the light switch goes where the choke is and the throttle goes over the choke:meh:

According to the owners manual you are right. Although, some pictures of other LV dashes show the same configuration of knobs and switches that I have. I would be surprised to find out that these had ever been moved. With this Cruiser it just seems like it's never been fooled with. Maybe they were different on the wagon compared to the truck or maybe it's one of those weird '67 wagon things where some parts are just a little different.

Both my 67s are set up that way, light switch on the right above the throttle control.Any pictures of your cruiser?

DASH

I just bought a 67 FJ 40. I AM LOOKING FOR THE 4WD buttons for the dash. I have two horns under the hood but dont know how to sounf the horn. It has the original steering wheel but I dont think the horn operated from there? any suggestions?

Can you link to the thread on restoring the knobs themselves? How did you do it? Looks like some polish and white paint? Mine could use a little new.

First I scrubbed with Simple Green and a scotch brite pad. Used an old toothbrush a little too. I trimmed the bristles on the toothbrush to stiffen it up. Then I used progressively finer(600>1000>1500) pieces of sand paper and wet sanded. After that I used the felt disc polishing wheel and the Dremel tool with some of the brown polishing compound that comes with the kit. I would just get a VERY small amount on the tip of my finger and rub it on then polish on low speed. If you use too much it splatters everywhere and ruins your felt disc. Sidenote: Put a dab of super glue in the hole in the center of the felt disc then screw the arbor in and let it set up. No more felt discs flying off after 10 minutes. Ok, so let's see I guess I did that last step over and over until I got it right. Sometimes if I just held the Dremel a different way it would shine up nicer. I think the most frustrating part was painting the letters. I used a paint pen and tried my best to just fill the letters but that is impossible so after the paint set up enough to not get "dirty" I lightly wet sanded over the letters and removed the extra paint. Then finally I polished with the Dremel again real quick and that seemed to do it. They're not all perfect and you have to call it good enough at some point for each knob but I'm really happy I did it. Good luck.

Umm... Your plush green carpet is supposed to go on the Floor, NOT on the roof... Check your service manual for correct installation of vehicle interior carpets.

Other than that the body looks straight and dent free.

But back to the thread... I will be keeping an eye on this too see if you add more.
Ill post some Pre- and after shots of my Dash this week too. I hope mine looks as good as yours.
Great job with its restoration. i appreciate your attention to fine detail, especially the white lettering on the black nobs.

The horn DOES operate from the center of the steering wheel.

Thanks for the compliment. I worked pretty hard on that dash but haven't done anything else lately. I have to find another little LV project that won't cost any money. I might start fixing the flintstone floors. I'm just going to patch in some sheet metal so we'll see how that goes. Good luck with your dash!
