Thought I'd post up some pics of my winch install on my factory bumper. I ended up going the chinese route(Vortex brand, 12,000lb) with the winch since it was so inexpensive. $329 shipped. I used a universal winch channel mount from summit racing to mount it to($40). Install was pretty straight forward after looking at the other threads with factory bumper winch installs.

Punched a couple extra holes into the winch channel mount to line up with the tow hook bolt holes after making some measurements. Also chopped off the sides of the channel mount to sit flush between the frame rails.

It's a big winch but sits pretty nicely between the frame rail on the channel mount. The only trimming I had to do was to the rear of the electrical box on top and the clutch engagement/disengagement handle on the right side. The handle was hitting the transmission cooler before it was in the fully engaged position.

Here's a close up pic of it behind the stock bumper. When I need to use it, I remove the drivers side air hole fitting so I can get to the disengagement/engagement handle. Pull the line out and use the wireless remote while sitting in the cruiser.

As fate has it, the day after I got done installing it, the wife and I had a weekend trip planned that went over a couple mountain passes. One part of the pass was really rutted with semi's going incredibly slow. I decided to pass(the cruiser is invincible, right?) 3 semi's at once and when I merged back over into the right lane hit some huge ruts and knocked the back end out. We did a 180 into a 2ft snow bank and down into a 4 ft ditch. We were high centered with no grip, even with the lockers engaged. I hooked the winch onto a tree right in front of us and we were out in about 15 minutes. The cruise was undamaged too.

Yeah, I know. I think I was so excited to use the winch and still shakin up by the encounter, that I forgot.

Glad everything is intact. So, *which* winch is it?

5k? 6k? 10k? 12? Sorry I'm too lazy to measure myself...

Ah, cr*p. I was using a smartphone browser and did not see your signature. Sorry.

Nice install, I'm going to do the same. Cheapo 12k winch FTW.

Looks great man!! That is a future project for me too

Me three- I like the stealth semi- factory look. Not that I'll ever use it......:D

I like it! Low key and practical. Nice set-up.

Thanks guys. I'm happy with the look as well. Here's another pic showing it in the day time at another angle.

Looks good man! Can't wait to have you install mine:)

Hehe, let's do it!

Here is a little more detail on the install of a generic 12K winch with the stock front bumper:
The plate extends 1.5 inch out from the frame rail.
You can locate the holes easily using a drill that fits the hole exactly.
You can "clock" the free spool handle so that it does not interfere with the transmission cooler.

Pin_Head - Interesting. Thanks for the extra info. I hadn't come across the Tuff Stuff Winches when I was looking for'em. How do you like it?

I have had the winch for over a year and have used it about a dozen times for recovering other vehicles and pulling trees and brush from my property with no problems. I bought it specifically because the importer is 5 miles from me and has been in business for over 6 years, so warranty issues should not require any shipping.

The other thing to point out is that there are three holes that you can use per side to mount the plate.

I'm about to mount a Harbor Freight 12000 lb winch in my stock front bumper using the channel mount from Harbor Freight. What are you guys using to cut the channel mount? An angle grinder with cutoff wheels?

By the way, I noticed from the pictures the Tuff Stuff winch looks identical the the HF winch I have. Also, Tuff Stuff sells replacement parts including motor and gears for that winch.
