Hello all. I purchased my '92 'Cruiser with 159,xxx miles in August. I found this site after my purchase  and read up on some good info and found out I needed to do more than just change the oil. Ordered some parts from cdan and a few other vendors here and the old beast runs great!

I am leaving on a 3500-4000 mile, 3 week journey Oct. 26. PA-MS-FL-PA. I plan on camping the whole way and driving part of the Blue Ridge Pkwy, Natchez trace, plus some other cool spots. I will be towing a small trailer to pick up some stuff I have in FL in storage. I will update this thread with my successful, trouble free voyage(:o) and pics too.

Below is what has been done by me...with a little help from my friend and  -

- valve cover gasket(oem)
- changed oil/ oil filter(oem + castol syn)
- rad flush refilled with red + tstat(oem)
- spark plugs(oem)
- wires(oem)
- dizzy cap(oem)
- rotor(oem)
- air filter(oem)
- fuel filter(oem)
- new belts(oem + gates)
- full desmog
- tailpipe(bosal)
- complete front end overhaul with new longer birfs & drive plates(oem + ringpinion.biz birfs/d plates)
- wheel bearings(auto-zone)
- re route diff breathers
- make center armrest elbow thing (i am very happy with this)
- synthetic gear oil in diffs & tc(castrol)
- some welding here and there
- rattle can flat black wheels
- something else I am forgetting?

Thank all you guys/gals for a wealth of information!!

I dig the black rims. Get rid of the roof rack soon. It likes to breed rust, especially in humid areas...

What size tires? 33?

Perfect color!!!:D

Leather in a 92? WTF.

Nice rig! Just curious, you have any suspension mods? Looks too level to be stock. Safe travels man!

Thanks! I plan on removing the factory rack when I get back and adding some sort of basket for the exact reason you say. I will also be removing the running boards and welding up some sort of slider(s). 33x12.5x15 tires

:) Yep!

...and in almost perfect shape too!

Just wondering why you went with the longer birfs??

I got the later longer drive spline birfs with longer driveplates.

Thanks! It looks like it has some noname? blue shocks but what appears to be stock springs. Got my bags packed and Charlie the golden retriever is clean. All I have left to do is buy ice, fruit, veggies, and barley juice.

*edit* Just noticed . When i bought the truck the white letters on the tires were on the outside. Yuk! I got the tires taken off for my professional rattle can wheel paint job and then put back on the "right" way. You can now see where I had knuckle oil dripping down the inside, which is now outside, of the front ds tire.

Looks good hope you have a safe trip. Hit me up when you get down here and we can go get a drink.

Consider doing the oil galley plug in the head.

I would also do a "Rodney Flush" of the transmission. Actually a fluid exchange, not a flush.

Otherwise good to go.

if you have not already, advance the timing you will like the power it adds.

I heard about Seafoam and how it makes improvements on the power department , I haven't tried, but I heard some good things about it.

Yeah but my question was why?? you had to buy new driveplates going that route instead of just new birfs by keeping the shorter version.

I was told the shorter ones are no longer available new? and the newer ones should be a stronger design?

I got my new ones from ,justdifferentials.com, a vendor on here.

Ok... didn't know you couldn't get the shorter ones anymore..... doesn't really matter i've got both drive plates and many birfs sitting in my garage. :grinpimp:

What's wrong with white lettering? Everyone does black letters out, why not be different?

1387 miles so far and not even half way done :). Averaging 15.3 mpg pulling a trailer and lots of gear. Burned almost 1/2 quart of oil. Taking 2 days off in Jackson, MS with sister and her kiddies.

"One step done and another begun and I wonder how many more miles"

Some pics so far...

Great pic at the reservoir.

Preparing for a 4500 mile trip myself.

Keep the pictures coming. Nice scenery!

Haven't forgotten about this thread. So far 3187 miles. My FL visit is over and so it's time to head back....another 2000 miles or so. Only problem so far is a broken exhaust hanger at the place where the cats used to be and an unquenchable thirst for petrol.

Here is 1 pic but I will post some really nice ones in a few days.

(cell phone pic) OMG!! Only in Florida :frown: :crybaby: :flamingo:
