The other day I turkey basted about 1 oz out of the power steering fluid resevoir and replaced it with some Lucas stabilizer/stop leak fluid. I have a small leak.

Anyway, it started groaning from the very first drive afterward. Read suggestions in the search on how to burp the system of the air I probably let in the syste. I jacked the entire front end up and turned the wheel full lock to each side about 10 times. All this did was pour a bunch of fluid onto my garage floor.

I need some suggestions from you guys.

thanks,

Chris

I would suggest back to the full ATF fluid .. if you have a leak better fix it than use another product in your PS system .. my .0002 cents

X2! Look at the reservoir cap or in your owners guide. Both say to use ATF Dexron II at least. I know, it's kinda weird using ATF instead of power steering fluid. I almost made the same mistake couple days ago, but something stuck in my mind to check the book instead of just adding fluid.

x2 on the atf. and when bleeding, turn wheel lock to lock slowly. watch the fluid rise and slow it down when it reaches brim. it might require turning lock to lock more than 10 times. stop when there are no more bubbles.

ford power steering fluid is perfect for the crusier it stoped the leak in mine and it is smooth and quiet

When you replace the ATF make sure you bleed properly:

to bleed, do this: fill the system to proper capacity, jack up the front end, slowly turn wheel from lock to lock about 10 times (engine off). Watch the fluid level to make sure you don't suck in more air. Put the lid back on lightly and let it sit for an hour or so. Repeat this process like 3 times. Have a friend watch and once you get to the point where there are no air bubbles coming up in the reservoir and the fluid level remains constant, you can be pretty sure you've bled it properly. It should be OK to drop it and start the engine now. Turn the wheel lock to lock a couple times and listen for moaning.
