Well, finally bought one, 1997 LX450 dark green, clear carfax, good mech condition. That's the good.

Leaving dinner tonight, it met a 1997 VW. I figure the VW was going about 50. Hit me in the driver's front fender, behind the tire. Pushed me into another parked car on the pass side. And pushed herself off into the median. Holy carp!
You guys were not kidding about the safety, this thing took the impact, and still drive home. The VW is not drivable. Everyone is OK, no one is hurt, which is very good.

Just waiting to see the damage report from Insurance, either Monday or Tuesday. Fun-fun. Attaching one before, and a couple of afters.

Photo is pre-wreck.

Damn that sucks!

but WELCOME:flipoff2:

Keep us posted.

Sorry to hear about the bad luck on the 'new to you' truck. Glad you weren't hurt. Depending on the severity of the damage, dont' be surprised if insurance totals it. Doesn't sound too bad if you were able to drive home.

Man that sucks, and esp so soon after buying it. I had a deer run into me on Gorman Rd 2 weeks after buying mine. Where did the wreck happen? Just glad to hear everyone is ok.

Nice to meet a triangle member!

Pulling out on Glenwood, from Lilly's. Late afternoon, dark and rainy, and the other driver did not have lights on. I hate DRL's, but damn, she shoulda had some. At least I would have seen her coming.

Front fenders, both running boards, front fender cladding, and it royally ruined the alignment, so fear of steering/suspension damage. We'll see what insurance says. IF it is totaled, I need enough to buy another one. Not that I was not sold before, but I am definitely sold now.

The vehicle will almost certainly be declared a total loss. That sounds like at least 7,000 dollars damage.

Do you have some pics of the damage? I'm sorry to hear about this. But I agree, there is a good chance it might be totaled. Check out bpassmore's recent thread about body damage. This is exactly why I am so nervous letting the wife drive mine. I've got too much into it to have it get totaled. I wish you the best of luck with the insurance.

Sorry about your vehicle. On a positive note no one was hurt...in a lesser vehicle that would be a different story.

Post meeting photos

Thanks for the wisdom from previous experiences. Photos are below. Need to get out today, and crawl around under, and see if anything is bent.

Seriously, 7 grand? Are these that expensive - body work wise?

That really sucks, like others have said if they total it out maybe you can buy it back.

Take it as a good thing. Now you don't have to worry about scratching it when you take it out on the trails :D Good exucse to take any insurance money and buy some mods and go join the Olde North State Cruisers on some trail rides.

That appears cosmetic. Just lose the running boards and the fender flares which have to come off with any serious trial usage anyhow. They only other things is the the drivers side fender. See if you can get a junk yard panel to replace the damaged one and get it color matched.

On another note, I only have liability insurance on my 1996 80. Does everybody have full coverage? I guess if mine was totaled, I would either try to fix it myself and at least turn it into a trail only truck or part it out and not have to deal with the insurance company. I only paid $6,700 for my 96' with 150,000 miles on it so I did not see the point in comprehensive coverage. Sorry for the hijack.

Was the other driver from Argentina? When I was there I found lights were optional at night.

Keep us posted on the outcome, and good luck with it. Check in on the Olde North State Cruisers forum under the TLCA/Clubhouse tab, maybe some of us can help ya if you wind up needing anything.

I think the 7 grand came from your description of a 50mph hit from the side. The picture posted doesn't match that initial impression.

Well mine was just close $3100 for the front bumper, ac, driver side fender flare, and body and wheel alignment. So from yours it will potential body/wheel aligning plus the fenders and flare. Make sure that they cover any dented rims too.

Its a total loss

Got word today, the appraiser stopped by to inspect the truck. There is 5400 in body damage, and they can not find the parts. Yep, it is cosmetic, except for the part where it does not drive straight. They do not know the extent of suspension damage, and totaled it with out even looking. Offered 8500 to total, and 5300, and I keep salvage rights. Getting final numbers tonight. Thinking about taking the $$ and running to another cruiser. I have until the end of the week to decide.

I do not want/need a trail rig. I do not have time to rebuild (although it may be quicker than searching for a new one). I need a family truck for long road trips. If someone out there wants it, PM me. This is not a for sale post, I'll do that in the classified section.

need to go to Venezuela and drive around Caracas at night .. scary !

BTW there is prety close to the axle .. the wheel tire combo didn't get anything of the WV .. ?

Probably on the tire, wheel looks clean. Does not drive straight now. Not sure what is bent.

That sucks. Up here in Asheville, my wife rear ended a Dodge Ram on I-40 in our 97 LX450 (3 yrs ago). Somewhere around $8000 in damage. Insurance paid to have it fixed. We took it to some guys a friend recommended, and they did the work in a little garage beside their house in Weaverville. These guys used to paint Nascars for Andy Petree- and did a perfect job for us. It was amazing. It required a new hood, 2 new fenders, and about everything in front of the engine. These trucks are tough. Fix it and keep on goin'!
