I bought a set of LX450 wheels some time ago. I plan to swap out the stock rims with the LX450 rims soon after I powder coat them. Can the same lug nuts be used with the LX450 rims??? I've read that they use different lug nuts but I'm still unclear on this . If different, exactly what lug nuts should I buy???

It will never work.

Your best option at this point would be to sell me 2 of the LX450 rims. :P

No it won't work. Just send me the wheels cheap. I've got an LX450 so for me it will work.

But now seriously.
There is no problem with changing wheels. The nuances with wheel lugs and nuts were connected to the change from conical nuts to flat nuts (don't know how to called them, but they have a flat flange instead of a cone). Therefore the rim lugs also had to change.

So remove one nut from your existing wheels and look both at the nut and wheel. If the nut has a large flat surface, like a built-in washer, then it's good. Look very carefully at the wheel. It it has an exact hole as your LX wheel, then it's OK.

If not, you have to buy the right wheel nuts and you're good to go :-)

2 for me, 2 for MikePL.

hmmm i believe they are both shank style lugnuts. the oem lugnuts on an fzj80 are a shank style and so are the tundra/sequoia rims. I dont know for sure but i thought the 100 series/470 also used shank but was only 5 lug instead, maybe its an acorn style lugnut as well.

What is the difference between the shank style and acorn style? I don't know. I assume the shank style lug lies flat against the wheel and the acorn style does not. Again, I don't know the difference. Help me out.

There are two types of factory alloys. The early type have a steel insert in the lug contact area and require acorn/conical type lugs. The later type, including all LX450 wheels, have a flat surface where the lug contacts and require shank/washer type.

Thanks guys. The LX wheels do not have the steel insert in the lug contact area. I'm fine. Thanks for the information. :D

here's a related question - are the stock lugs from a 95 with alloys black or chrome?
needed to replace some of mine (wheel locks...) and the parts dept at toyota only came up with the black ones, but that seemed odd to me...

96 lug nuts have a parkerized/charcoal color finish. I would assume 95 is the same.
