Where did these options on my FJ-60 come from?

Okay Cruiserheads, I need some help figuring out the lineage of my 1987 FJ60. (I’ve handed over the keys to my daughter, who said that she was curious about the unusual options it apparently came from the factory with.)

I purchased my 60 from a young woman in Los Angeles in 2007 for $2000. (Yes, that’s right, $2000!:D) It came with full-floating axles front and rear with cable lockers. It also has the H55 transmission, which according to the woman I purchased it from, was how it came from the dealership when her father, the original owner, purchased it new in 1987.

I found the original registration in the car and sure enough, her father was the original owner. However, since he passed away about 5 years ago, I can’t get any details on how these rare options ended up on the 60. I found the original bill of sale, which shows that it was purchased at a Toyota dealership in Torrance, California, which is not too far from where I live in San Gabriel, California. It has its factory owner’s manual, which explains in detail how to operate the cable lockers, but I am not sure if all factory owner manuals have this information in them as well.

So, how did these options end up on my FJ60? I thought that the full-floaters, cable lockers and the 5-speed were not options in the American FJ60s? Any ideas on how these options ended up on my FJ60 from the dealership? (If you need any additional information from me to help figure this out, please let me know what you need!)

I have no idea but you won the American market gas powered Land Cruiser lottery. For real. Good luck, I'll be interested to see what you find out! Best,

You do realize you "stole" that truck? Right?

Looking forward to details. Fascinating, what a score!

A few years ago there was another 60 set up just like this one for sale in Los Angeles. It was very rusted, but I went and looked at it because of the axles I saw in the pictures.

The wife showed me the 60 and told a similar story, even that it came from the Toyota dealer in Torrance! Sure enough, 5 speed, full floater and cable lockers...WOW!

I was told to call her husband that night, when I did, someone had already bought it. It sold for $2500.00!

There was another one on Craigslist at used car lot in Anahiem about a year or so ago. Not sure on the full floater axle, but it had the lockers and 5 speed. It was silver and badly rusted. It sold before I could see it.

I showed the pictures to Marv at SOR. He said he had seen a few also, so who knows?

Very cool 60! Let me know if you (She) wants to sell it!

I wouldn't be surprised if a dealer thought it would be neat to order one like that.

I like your invisible drive shafts :D

Double

I'd like to offer you what you paid for it! ;)

^^^ I will double what he is offering you, your daughter will get tired of shifting all 5 gears in L.A traffic. Very nice find and you are lucky to have that gem.:D

You are very lucky the dealer must of had good connection when putting the order in since back then Toyota just mass shipped cookie cutter models with limits on the optionals,
Yes to the question all owner manuals of the FJ60/62 showed the cable lock operation that made me so jealous when I bought my first Landcruiser from the dealer and asked if I could get that option and they told me no, but thats okay 25 years later and I now have that option and a diesel to boot. .

... and the even more rare rear driveshaft delete...

That is so strange.
How about a pic of the builders plate under the hood to see the factory components listed?

Rare find! That will cut down your cost in additional upgrades in the long run! :D

Yeah, Ocho, a pic of the VIN plate and the plate in the door jamb will help decode whether those are factory installed or dealer or ... ?

Btw, that's too much truck for your daughter. Sell it and buy a super-clean runner. My phone is on. :D

Woah.. rust free underside and all those goodies... damn.... can you say SCOOOOOORE !!!!

You should play the lotto.
Sweet rig.
Love the color as well !!

Any idea as to why the rear prop shaft is missing? From the looks of it, it's been off for some time.
And therefore driving around with only front wheel drive the whole time?

Anyway. very awesome 60.

So the real options seem to be-

-front and rear cable lockers
-rear stabilizer bar
-rear full floater
-H55 trans

That is very bizzare and ultra cool.
Has Cali emmisions too?

Beno where are you?
Need some Arakawa detective work here.
