Okay Cruiserheads, I need some help figuring out the lineage of my 1987 FJ60. (I’ve handed over the keys to my daughter, who said that she was curious about the unusual options it apparently came from the factory with.)
I purchased my 60 from a young woman in Los Angeles in 2007 for $2000. (Yes, that’s right, $2000!
) It came with full-floating axles front and rear with cable lockers. It also has the H55 transmission, which according to the woman I purchased it from, was how it came from the dealership when her father, the original owner, purchased it new in 1987.
I found the original registration in the car and sure enough, her father was the original owner. However, since he passed away about 5 years ago, I can’t get any details on how these rare options ended up on the 60. I found the original bill of sale, which shows that it was purchased at a Toyota dealership in Torrance, California, which is not too far from where I live in San Gabriel, California. It has its factory owner’s manual, which explains in detail how to operate the cable lockers, but I am not sure if all factory owner manuals have this information in them as well.
So, how did these options end up on my FJ60? I thought that the full-floaters, cable lockers and the 5-speed were not options in the American FJ60s? Any ideas on how these options ended up on my FJ60 from the dealership? (If you need any additional information from me to help figure this out, please let me know what you need!)
