1st off, sorry for the double post, but It occurred to me I should be asking this in the FJ60 area :D

OK, I think I have this right, but want to make sure. If anyone is 100% sure please let me know.
I have a 87 CA FJ60 distributor I'm putting on my 74 FJ40.

I'm checking the vacuum advance with a vacuum pump and by simply *sucking* through a clean hose.

The sub-diaphragm *hi altitude compensation* system works great (farthest from the distributor)
but... I can't build any vacuum on the main-diaphragm:confused: I'm assuming it's bad.

My 2 questions:

it's the main-diaphragm that gets hooked to ported vacuum and has the majority of the vacuum advance right? The sub-diaphragm is only a small amount of advance 6deg

the main-diaphragm is closest to the distributor body and the sub-diaphragm is farthest. As shown in the FJ60 manual pictures below.

Is there any reason a CA vehicle would be different or reversed?
I think I'm over-thinking this. if I can't build vacuum, then the main-diaphragm HAS to be bad right?

Anybody know how much a replacement vacuum system is from Toyota?

Thanks

Pretty sure a Ca FJ60 is the same.

Diaphragm is bad or the mechanism is crudded up.

New vacuum pot is $70 give or take. I just got one from Cruiserdan when the FJ60 ignition went in th 40 series.

It is also my understanding that the main vacuum port has most of the advance, the other is for the high altitude compensator which has a maximum additional advance of 4 degrees.

With that said though, MOST of the advance is done by the centrifical weight system, with the vacuum to act as a trim mechanism.

Need info new to fj 60 my q is I have 2 vacuum ports on the distributor 1 goes to the base of carb where does the smaller one go

The outer vacuum actuator is used by the high altitude compensation system (HAC).
