I am a complete rookie on this site. I have learned alot of things from alot of different people on the site. One thing I have always been able to do is take things apart, and put them back together.

I have checked with alstaz, and woody, and I think it is time , after watching buckroseau, and the guy with the convertable 40, I think in colorado?, I may be ready.

Now I do not have a digital camera, I use the cheap throw aways from the mart. I plan on going to alstaz place of work, and will take care of that with a "mud hook up."

Let me tell you the history of the 40 I am really close to pulling the tub.

I have a 60x80 pole building that houses our paint equip and paint trucks www.weberpainting.com. 1300 sq ft. of that space is insulated with overhead radiant heat, compressor, work bench, etc. We repaint all of our work rigs ourselves. I also have a nice forklift- to lift:D.

Now the history. I bought this rig off of ebay, only because it was in my native gods country of WI. I watched it for awhile and put my bid in in the last min. I had 2 cruisers already, and bought a real pos 40 (ebay) that I doubled my cash on. I was not in the biz to buy and sell vehicles. I wanted to drive a 40 .

So I was on the road painting barns in Viroqua wi, got access to a cpu, checked my bid, and sure as ****, I won. I called the guy, made arrangements and my wife and I drove the fj62 3 hrs north to get it. Actually right in woodys back yard.

Show up, the guy is 80 yrs. old (typical old car story) says the dr. won't let him drive it anymore. He bought the rig in G.B. with 5k miles on it. He then proceeded to tow it with his rv for the next 30+ yrs. When I got in , it had an unwrapped inspection light in the glove box, tool kit under the drivers seat, with jack, with the rubber protective grommet on the jack. Jump seats have Jap stickers still on them, cluster says 49k miles. Wow.

The mods he put on it were a weber carb, tachometer, 2 fans, an octagon cutout by the drivers jump seat, so he could ice fish in the rig, New exhaust header, and these really cool tires called super things with metal studs. Everything else was stock, and original.

I drove it home 3 hrs, with my daughter and her friend in the jump seats, my other daughter up front with me. It was ......

great.

Which brings us here. As I said , I am in the process, of getting a digital camera, so bear with me.

I have about 50 pics so far of the tear down thus far. I have done a # of things already, painting body parts, getting things powder coated, ordering parts(cdan) etc. I get my crappy disc back on tuesday, and will post a pic then, until now, I will put up a few of the old pics i have or have not posted here.

My mods will include-

1. 2-2.5 ome suspension, or stock, not sure yet.
2. My own custom paint job supplied to me by Diamond Vogel paints.
3. Powder coated frame , axles, and seat brackets(done) any other suggested will be noted.
4. Oem restoration, as much as I can do, as long as it takes. I am kinda gay with the oem stuff.

Other mods, not sure yet.I can definately say I will NOT make this a d.d , it will be my sunday topless breakfast getter. If you live in wi you know why you should NOT drive a 40 like this year round.

Oh ya I have had the collector plates sitting in my garage along with spare tire carrier, bumper, bumperettes, both license brackets, bib, bezel, and a few other things all sandblasted and painted by me.

Patience, and I hope I learn stuff along the way-

I just looked at this pic. I already had removed certain things.....
Obviously, but it is a complete rig.

Nice rig. I read you future mods and I would like to suggest not powder coating the frame, especially if you plan on taking it off road. Obvious reason is that the coating will chip under off road conditions. Plus powder coating is just too expensive for an off road vehicle. Either paint amd clear it or just undercoat it. But whatever you decide make sure you sandblast or soda blast all the parts.

BTW, plan on the restoration process being much, much more expensive than you wildest dreams. :(

I know the cash will be much, however for parts. I will be doing the work, as well as my father in law and his gear head buddies. Those guys will lend a hand if I need it.I may blast my own frame and axles.

I have the equip, and the know how, just not sure how to get in those boxed areas, maybe a long handled mop type thing. Spraying will not work in those areas. That is of course for the painting.

I do intend on spending less than I paid for the rig, and I can and will do that. I already had a quote from tlc for a mere $38,690.00:doh:. I think I can beat that.

I am going out of town for a few days painting barns. I got my disc from the mart today, and my daughter failed uploading the pics I had in store.

I think it is time I got a digital camera from alstaz, and got out of the stone age. wheel well shot.webp

pics

got back from my trip the other day. Decided to remove all brake and clutch assemblies in preparation for removing the tub.

I got all of the aforementioned parts removed with no difficulty.

I then cut the 4 body mount bolts near the rear sill with a sawzall(bi-metal blade), the rest 3 came out 3 broke. So I am standing there wiggling the tub with another guy. Now I mentioned I have a foklift, however the whole tub flexes a little, and with out bracing, I did not want to take the chance.

So we lifted as high as we could. Set it back down. Decided to go 4 it. We lifted and moved it towards the rear, until the ass end of the full tub was resting like one of lomauss' pics of his new tubs. The process was very easy. I think I have this pic thing hammered out, and the other pics will be getting developed shortly.:beer:

Great looking crusier to rebuild. Looking forward to following the progress!

4/75

it is a great cruiser to rebuild, but I really need to get a digital camera from alstaz place of work. Re-sizing pics from a disposable camera sucks really bad.

Title read correctly? ;)

Looks like you are having fun!

Get a camera, the pics out here for other to see are great, besides, you may find yourself referencing the thread to put things back together. ;)

Good luck!

pic resizing

I still haven't had a chance to get up to alstaz work site to score a camera. However, I decided to check the forum and wall -ah, woody has a resizing tool for pics. Played around with it , so lets move on here.

I have a ton of pics of different systems to help me and you remember htf to put everything back together, so I hope not to bore you, but I think they can be useful
