Has anyone installed an electric speedo to their Toy t-case? My friends got me a gage kit for my 40 for my b-day a few months ago, but the sending unit doesn't even come close to fitting into the existing speedo bung. 350/TH350/3 Speed transfer.
Thanks

i put in a set of vdo gages with electronic spedo. i had the trans shop make me a cable that mated to the tcase and the electronic sending unit. set the spedo per instructions and you dont have to worry about speedo being off for different size tires.

An AutoMeter Model 5291 fits right on. No changing of gears necessary. It is a 3 wire setup; 1 to engine ground, 1 to switched 12v, and the other to the speedo. The sending unit works with both digital and analog speedos, and is easily adjustable no matter what your tires are or your rear end gears are. I will post some pictures here in a few minutes, as I just happen to have my engine pulled at the moment, and can take some pics.

In order to use the sending unit and still have a parking brake, I had to figure a work-around, because the sending unit and parking brake cable interfered with each other. So I drilled 4 holes offset roughly 3/4 inch in the backplate of the parking brake, in effect rotating where the parking brake cable enters.

The first picture is the original backplate, the second pic is of the modified one, and the third pic is of the AutoMeter 5291 sending unit (available at almost any hotrod shop).

Sorry, I haven't figured out yet how to shrink the pics. Will post later.

Finally figured out Photoshop.

you might try these guys too www.downeyoffroad.com and www.jagsthatrun.com they both sell stuff for conversion and may have what you need. the second one is the one i am useing to get the stuff i need for my TPI conversion. and if you have a speedo shop around the area try them they can set you up.

Thanks for all the help guys. You probably just saved me about 6 months. BIG help, thanks again

I also have 5291 but mine only has a square hex key.
