My 1999 has 132,000 miles. It was getting sloppy with lots of side to side swaying. Following the advice of these posts:

I changed all the hardware in less than 2 hours with OEM. Not even worth documenting because it's just simple common sense and straight forward. For a few extra bucks I order every nut and bolt too. Some of the bolts were in surprisingly good condition. Used a wire brush and some grease on the swaybars at the mounting points.

This has made a HUGE difference in the handling. It's no Porsche but it's much more stable and no more metal on metal sounds. Only one more sound to track down but I think it's the E-Brake hardware that rattles over bumps. I'll have to tie one of the kids to the undercarriage and take them for a ride.
My Bilsteins have 50K on them. Might send them in for a rebuild this summer then she'll be set for another 50-75K.

Happy to answer any questions. Pic shows just how destroyed all the parts were ESPECIALLY the front sway bar end links. Those were toast.

I've been reluctant to stiffen my asb system thinking that it would work against my articulation on the trail. In fact at least one user here has his asb either removed or disconnected. The one thing I do need to do is to go with the extended drops for the rear.

Does anyone know of a sway bar disconnect setup? Something that can be disconnected and reconnected at the transition from road/trail.
 
I'm happy without a front ASB especially against Iron Man T-bars (stiffen the front negating the ASB need IMO +better articulation +simpler front end).
I am doing longer rear links with urethane to replace the old rubber. I do need the rear bar to take effect sooner. I think that due to the worn our rubber my truck is well into it's lean before the ASB takes up all the rubber slack.
 
Nice job and thanks for posting this. I've been wanting to do it but have been putting it off. The other day my wife mentioned she didn't like driving the 100 much faster than about 50mph. She said it feels a bit sloppy at higher speeds. I think I need to do this sooner rather than later.

I'm also thinking about some OME torsion bars. Would that stiffen up the ride a bit?

I've got some bilsteins on the front and they have probably 75,000 miles on them.

The passenger side steering rack bushing probably has a lot to do with that...
 
I have ordered the parts to do the front.
Hopefully they arrive when I am back from holiday.

Anyone have a DYI for that bushing and a part number?

When you say track down another noise, I assume the sway bar was also making a noise. Can you describe it? I have a knocking/tapping type noise coming from the front left area that sounds like something metal is involved and I'm wondering if it's the sway bar.

Never mind. Put it on a lift today and it's the left front upper control arm bushings. They are shot and new rubbers have been ordered.
