(I know "Yet Another iPhone Thread"! This one pretty much will only apply to iPhone fanatics)

If you have an existing head unit with iPod / iPhone integration, you may want to do some research prior to upgrading to the new iPhone 5:

Looks like integrations that rely on Analog signals coming through the adapter (popular) will no longer be supported through the Lightning connector, while head units that went the more integrated route, capturing a Digital signal, won't have problems.

I have been holding off ripping out the Nakamichi All-In-One in my '00 LX470 specifically because I wanted to see what happened with the new iPhone. Looks like I will be waiting a few more months until the new dock connector is adopted by the manufacturers.

In the short term, you may be able to plug one of these into your existing cable, and convert the phone to using Bluetooth (note: I have not tried this yet):

You can purchase the $70 adaptor that will allow an iPhone 5 to work with the existing old connector. This is what I plan on doing when I upgrade my phone.

Yes there is an adapter. But, according to the article in the op's post, that wont help if your stereo only receives the audio as an analog signal. It will only work if you are currently using a digital method. This probably only applies to stereos that are a few years old and people that may have adapted their factory stereo with a cable....Also, if you use an Aux cable from the headphone jack you should be fine for now too.

This will probably be moved to the electronics section since it has nothing specific to the 100 series...

Anthony.L,

Did you happen to contact VAIS? If so, does there iPod integration use digital audio?

I was about to shoot them a email but figured i'd ask first. I'm wanting to get the iPhone 5 and haven't bought the VAIS or the USA Spec option.

I have the iPhone 5 and love it. Such a great phone (despite my glitchy keyboard...). However I am really hoping the adapter works with my current iPhone adapter that is the 30-pin. I'll report back when I purchase the adapter. The Apple store is supposed to have them in early next week.

Sweet. Yeah, let me know what you find out. I'd like to pull the trigger on something soon...getting tired of CD's and the radio :crybaby:

I bought a tunner thing for the iPhone 4s but it's just annoying....static issues while streaming through it.

I thought about going with the USA Spec Bluetooth option...but would rather have a hard wired option. Infact, that's what they recommended through email a while back.

Hopefully the adapter works or they offer a new cord option. Nonetheless, i'll be getting the new iPhone :meh:

Yes, I contacted them via their support forums on their web site. I did get a reply a while back saying they would update once they got their own iPhone 5 in house. I then replied last night asking for an update, assuming they might have got one on release day. Nope, they said they will not have one until mid next week....

The 30 pin adapters are not even shipping from Apple yet, so it might yet be even longer. I wonder if the US SPEC bluetooth adapter works with the iPhone 5, might be the solution...

oh, ok. I guess i thought it was still up in the air about whether audio worked with the adapter. Now i guess i just have to figure out if i want to wait to see if they come out with a new version which eliminates an adapter (besides bluetooth). Hmmmm....

I think new versions of integration hardware that uses the new lightening connector is absolutely coming. However it will be a long time, these companies need time to develop and source the components.

This is the number one reason I've held off on upgrading my 4s. I do not want to be left behind with a new connector just for faster data and a slighter taller screen...

I've been emailing back and forth with VAIS today...thought i would share what they said. Sounds like the adapter will work...

Dan,

SL3i will work with new iPhone 5 using Apple adapter. Or you can take a look at MML product, which is a USB port unit and it will also be compatible with iPhone 5.

The MML product does sound pretty cool...it is more expensive though. http://www.vaistech.com/dev/mml.php

"Pre-order" and "NOT AVAILABLE ANYWHERE until October" does not equate to now available in my book....

They state "shipping" in the title. Then you click description (on phone) and it says"pre-order". I wonder how many people have been fooled.
