why do many prefer an araco built 100?

What is so special about an araco 100 vs any other 100 ?

when was the last year for araco 100's .

Are the 100s built by araco better built than other 100s ? or is it just the name ?

What's an araco? Oh, and it isn't better because of the name - whatever it is.

ARACO is the company that Toyota outsourced manufacture of Land Cruisers and LX450/LX470/LX570's.

They were built at the ARACO and, now, Toyota Auto Body Yoshiwara Plant in Toyota City.

It has since been combined with Toyota Auto Body.

This occurred in 2004.

Most of us North American LC owners will have a blue and white ARACO sticker on the front passenger side bottom of the door on the inside.

Other markets got cruisers built elsewhere (Land Cruiser production has long since become globalized by region and sometimes nation).

Of course, we all like the formerly-known-as ARACO built rigs.

Just because.

:)

Always wondered what those ARACO stickers on my rig meant.

I read somewhere that ALL 100s are built in Japan, for all markets.
Not all the 80s or 105s, but all the LC100 & LX470

*were* 100 series are no longer manufactured. :)

The Yoshiwara plant can only manufacture so many vehicles per day. The height of their glory was during 80 series production where the plant churned 24 hrs a day 5 days a week. There are currently only 2 shifts a day 5 days a week manufacturing the 7x variants, the LC200, and the LX570.

The LX versions of the LC have only ever been manufactured in Japan at the Yoshiwara plant, that is correct.

I thought ARACO had been building cruisers since the 40 series? Didn't the ARACO plant have less automation and more hand assembly than the other plants? I thought that certain Toyota plants had a reputation of being very slightly better than the others?

Would anyone say that the build quality of cruisers has declined since the switch from the ARACO plant? My friend's 200 just doesn't seem like it has the build quality of my '99 lx

Sure were.

Except back then they were called Arakawa Auto Body, then they became ARACO. :) other players were involved back then too, most notably Gifu Auto Body.

The Yoshiwara Plant is very automated, at least what CDan, Mot, and I saw when we were there. That said, the engines were being put together by hand over in a corner. Everything else is your usual assembly line, robot welders, massive body panel presses, etc.

A few Toyota owned plants are top notch, most notably, the Tahara plant where all domestic LCs are manufactured as well as 4runners/GX460s/RAV4s/and most Lexus badged vehicles for export.

I like doing a Google Earth search for these plants. You can see clearly what is waiting for manufactures (rolling chassis) as well as what is literally coming off the line and sitting in massive mall parking lot-like areas to be packed on to ships.

That's in the eye of the beholder. Your call really.

The LCs haved switched for the NA market from the old ARACO Yoshiwara plant to the state-of-the-art Tahara plant.

All LX570s are manufactured at the old LC plant. All 7x series rigs are as well.

Interesting thread... so much LC history to discuss; please don't let the mod's/ or wooody kill it.

I have to agree with you there, every landcruiser (with the exeption of south american and filipino 40's) i have ever taken a close look at has been built in japan, and i am certain i have read somewhere that this is the case...

Toyota also built LC's in Venezuela.
