Today I spent some quality time doing maintenance on the LC. It was my first oil change since ownership. Just over 90k and I switched to M1 EP 5w-30 and an M1-209 filter. The PO had all maintenance done at Toyota so they've been using standard oil and the newer YZZD3 filter. I didn't have the 90915-20004 filter (I'll have them in a few weeks) and I noticed a drop in oil pressure after I was finished. Nothing major, but enough that I noticed. I didn't put an oil pressure gauge on it, just going by the dummy gauge on the dash. New crush washer, no leaks or anything like that.

Is the drop due to the larger filter? The synthetic oil? Will I see a change with the 20004 filter since it filters a little finer? Anyone else using the 20004 filter and M1 synthetic oil? Suggestions/Comments?
 
different wieghts and types show different pressures. The oil filter would not have anything to do with it. Did you check your oil level after you noticed the drop? Likely not a big deal and just to the change in pressure. Can you be more descriptive as to what the dial now shows?

I'm a little below the 1/2..... but still above the 1/4. Closer to 1/2. It was steady at the 1/2 mark or very slightly above before the change. Oil level is "F"

Then there is nothing to worry about. It's due to the change in oil type/weight

low at idle = no worries, they all are.

He said it was lower than before after changing the oil and that it is just below half vs just above before

When I changed oil types in my 80 from 10-30W to 0-40W synth, My pressure changed signifcantly, here he changed oil weight down to 5-30W from I'm guessing 10-30W. The only thing I could think of to look into it is to change back to the previous oil weight and see if it goes back to what it was. What else would he look into?
 
Oil pressure gauge needle should be at the 1/2 mark during warm up idle and at the 1/4 or slightly below once the oil is warm.

That's what I showed this morning after 30 mins of driving. Reassuring. What kind of OCI should I do after first switching to fully synthetic? My plan was at 4000 miles for the first change, I'm guessing the synthetic oil will have some cleaning action to it. Longer? Shorter?

I guess I should have checked my manual, that picture is exactly what my pressure gauge reads. Now I'm thinking I was a tad high before the oil change!

Most of the oil analysis that has been shared for our 2UZ-FE engines indicate oil contaminants still within a good/acceptable range at 10,000-11,000 miles on the oil...YMMV.

For more peace of mind than anything else I replace the oil filter at 5,000 miles along with a little less than a qt of oil it holds...and then full replace once per year...or 20k miles whichever comes first (Amsoil oil).
 
I use a Toyota Filter and do a full chage once a year whether it needs it or not. I don't see a reason to do an early oil change because of the switch
