Haven't had an oil analysis done on the LC, so last oil change, sent it into Blackstone (good people).

Background: Of the 7,300 miles, approximately 3,000 of it was road trips. The rest was stop-n-go in-town miles. Despite this, the results were favorable and better than my old Tacoma's (3.4L V6).

Oil used: Valvoline Full Syn 5w-30
Oil Filter: NAPA Gold (by WIX)
Air filter: NAPA Gold (paper). Had unfavorable results with K&N (spike in silicon, probably due to dirt it was letting in)

I am going to go 9,000 next time and send it in to compare. Will go 10k if the 9k UOA comes back positive.

Based on everything I've read over the last year or 2 on here I chose a 10K service using Mobil 1 5W-30. I'm at about 7K since my last one and will send it off to testing when I change it at 10. I'm assuming it will come back looking wonderful.

My Subaru on the other hand will continue to have it's interval at 2500-3K. It destroys oil. Probably the Turbo's doing.

I wonder why sodium is higher than universal average while all other analytes are less...? Overall it looks like a great report.

I just changed my oil last weekend, with 10,000 miles on both the oil and the filter. As soon as I get the shipping bottles from Blackstone I will send a sample in for analysis. I plan to get the TBN analysis as well, as this is the parameter that indicates whether the oil is still performing its primary role, lubrication.

FYI there is a train of thought that Mobil1 in subarus disappear..... just saying.. I personally never had any issues but switched mine over to Amsoil....

might switch this LC over to Amsoil too and run 10K

It could be left over from previous oils?:meh: Wonder what oil the owner used in previous oil changes?

How are yall sending in the oil to Blackstone? All the local post offices here won't take it one even called the phone number on the Blackstone letter and still wouldn't take it.

You use[STRIKE]d[/STRIKE] the container and tube box that blackstone sends as the sample kit.
If you don't have the proper BS sample kit, then you kind of have to improvise.

Edit to strike the "d"... been reading to many loosed postings I guess.

jason - I used Mobil1 5w-30 with K&N oil filter before this. Never got the M1 tested. I really don't care much for M1, as it's a pretty thin oil compared to other oils of the same weight/visc. In my other cars I used to race, I noticed that M1 burned off much quicker than other oils (Valv., Amsoil, Penn Plat, Castrol). It's also priced a little bit higher than other synthetics, so I stopped using it.

Inside the acceptable range for a given viscosity M1 sits on the low side. Given that new engines are going to 5W-20 I don't see this as a negative.

If you want thicker in a 5W-30 the M1 SUV or High Mileage is there for you.

I would go back to BS and question the Na.
I checked my UOA data sheet on my old 80 series and Na was "5".

I think toyota oil uses a lot of Na, but I am not sure about Valvoline.
BS has been known to make errors on the reports and they are pretty honest about correcting their mistakes.

Btw- I love the mobil 1 oils. I think they are the best value for the money and always available to pickup on just about any corner store. I started on the 5w-30 high mileage and after 6k miles it still looks pretty good.

Thanks for the tip. I'll have Blackstone double check.

BTW, 4.7 V8's are very easy on oils. All my oils looked like that at 5-7k miles, no matter what I was using. However, in my other cars that revved to 9k, it looked pitch black at 4k.

Jason has a good point. Sodium is way wacky looking. Do a search on the other UOA's posted in here b/c I've got one on a 12,200OCI, M1 5w30 (old formula), and Na was also a 5.

Nevermind: Here's my crusty old thread.

I need to do another UOA now that I'm past 200k for curiosity's sake.

Have any of you asked the dealer to get the sample for you? I don't change my own oil. Yea, yea I know.

Also any of you drive semi-rather enthusiastically and still go over 5k? I'm running M1 and M1209 filter and went to ~6.5k last time and swapped it out. Just a little cautious.

I should have been clearer in my post. What I meant was as soon as the post office asks that question "is there anything liquid, flammable, perishable, etc..." Once I tell them what it is they refuse to ship it. I was just wondering how yall were mailing it. Yes, I know I could just lie but I am not comfortable doing that.

Seriously?? Put it in a blank box and mail it.

Answer no to all above questions and move on with your life.

it's not rocket science.

EDIT: tell them its lube - for something
