I plan to upgrade the stereo in my 01' LC. I will replace the Radio with a double din head unit and replace all of the speakers. The problem I am having is trying to find a placement for 2 amps. They won't fit under any of the seats or inside the panels that I know of. I amy have to build an amp rack for the tailgate, which really stinks because I am all about a very clean and hidden look.
Any suggestions? I was hoping that wagon gear would have had the tillage storage thingy made by now. That would have been perfect.

Just spent an hour opening panels scouring the hundy for a hidden location for one amp. Only solution I can come up with is to build a small box around the jack storage panel. The amp I bought won't fit inside and I want to still be able to use my third row.

Starting to think the amp is more trouble than it will be worth. May just replace the speakers and return the amp.

If you are removing the factory subs put the new amps back there. Remove the sub assembly and it should free up lots of room. That is where I have my other one.

Installed a pair of JL Audio amps under the front passenger seat. Took a bit of doing but they just oh so barely fit.

buy or build some drawers and you can attach it to the side. See LJ's drawer build.

I have two amps stuffed in the passenger side rear storage compartment space. You'll have to disassemble part of it in order to make it work, but there's enough space in there for my 4-channel MTX amp mounted to a plywood base, as well as an Alpine mono amp right next to it. It is a tight space, but I was able to get it done. If it weren't for the large sub box sitting in the back, it would look like a stock system as no aftermarket components are visible, except for the headrest monitors.

You could also install them under the PS seat as spressomon did but even after removing the factory amp, there wasn't much room down there due to the factory navigation module. Instead of the amps going down there, that's where I put the NAV-TV module and sound controller that are part of my stereo setup.

Here are my amps and locations.
Under the passenger seat are: Arc Audio 4 channel and a Arc audio 2 channel under the 4 channel. Also under the seat is a Rockford Fosgate 3Sixty processor with a fan.
In the rear panel is a JL mono block amp.

Is the JL mono amp located where the stock sub used to be?

yes. I am not sure though how much more would fit back there. Maybe one more small amp.

I'm not sure what you mean about the GPS. I didn't do the install.
I will post a pic tomorrow of my sub box and placement.

On a 2000 LC/LX the speed and reverse wire are tapped at the ECU behind the glove box... Should be the same.

There are 5 connectors on the ECU, looking at ECU, from top to bottom

E5 / 31 pins
E6 / 24 pins
E7 / 17 pins
E8 / 28 pins
E9 / 22 pins

Speed wire is VIOLET E8-Pin 15

Reverse Wire is Red-Blue E8-Pin 2

Awesome, thanks!

So folks are aware;

As you know the LX470 has a bigger radio opening and needs a trim piece to fill in the gap on a double DIN head unit... what you probably don't know is that the actual brackets that hold the radio are different than an LC as the radio mount holes on the brackets are recessed into the dash further than the Land Cruiser.

This can be a problem with certain trim panels or in Lexi4Darin's case where he swapped his LX center trim and AC control for a 3 dial setup the Pioneer wouldn't work unless we changed the radio bracket's to the Land Cruiser ones. The issue was the front of the head unit would rub the opening preventing the screen from pivoting up.

The brackets were easily swapped and now the radio fits perfectly.

Brackets for non-nav head units

LC Brackets (R/L) are **211-60071 and **212-60071

LX Brackets (R/L) are **211-60080 and **212-60080

I'm planning on keeping the factory amp only to power the factory sub. I'll be adding a 50x4 amp for the door speakers and wiring it independent of the factory wiring with one exception. I'll have to add a y adapter to the RCA out on the AVIC, one side to the new amp and the other to the factory amp. any chance of introducing unwanted "noise" due to this?

Think your going to have noise issues. Before j upgraded to an amp and used the factory amp with the AVIC I had a butt load of noise. Filters could not silence it.

The avic requires a tap into the speed sensor wire in order for the GPS navigation to work properly, supposedly.

are you sure you dont mean the DVD to work properly as it is not suppose to work when vehicle is moving.

GPS would not tie into vehicle speed sensor as it determines speed by location and triangulation between three or more satelites to determine location, altitude, and speed.

I would have thought the same thing, but according to the install manual it's for he GPS.
