I've never used this site—thanks for the link! Do you know if the short blocks are the same between a '94 and a '97? I'm thinking about buying a running engine for our 1994 just to get it back on the road quickly. Then I could rebuild it at my leisure to eventually replace the high-mileage engine in my '97, which has over 470,000 miles and is still going strong.

Just recall we are in the post de minimus exemption era.....

It is not the duties that will get you, it is the tack on handling fees.
 
Previous owner of my 80 used the Ishino suite of gaskets to do the head gasket in 2014. It still runs good. If I had to do it myself I'd just go OEM if it isn't much more, but there's plenty of other factors involved in an engine overhaul that will contribute to the longevity of it as well.
