Anybody done any recent business with Yota Imports out of LA? Looking for some feedback before I finalize a deal with them.
Any input would be appreciated - thanks!

Where are you hearing bad reports? I have poured over the internet and only found a couple of very angry customers, devil’s advocate, maybe they had unfair expectaions. Hard to tell without both sides of the story.
Anything specific?
Sorry, really appreciate your feedback - just trying to be thorough and fair with what I hear.

Duke sold me some seats out of an HJ61 about 18 months ago. It was an easy transaction and he is a pretty nice guy. He seems to have really ramped up his business in the last year or so.

Search under their former name "Cross Country Cruisers".

I have not dealt with them directly myself so I shouldn't have posted a response here. Like I said, not everyone's experience may be the same.

My concern for doing business with YotaImports is based off of what I have read about them as CCC and heard from others in real life. I am going to leave it at that.

Their site indicates they are in Phoenix AZ

The business was moved to AZ at some point I belive. If that happened before or after the name change, I don't know.

I received my KZJ78 from Duke, with Yota Imports, a few days ago and everything went smoothly. The vehicle was as represented and he was a pleasure to deal with. I understand that everybody has different experiences, but mine was a good one.
(Just thought I should follow up on this in the name of fairness)

Maybe I spoke too soon.
I am now two months out and still waiting for a ladder that he promised with the truck. I am doing my best to be patient, but it might be time to start handling things differently with this company.
Stay tuned...

I am currently working on a truck that was bought by my client from Yota Imports....

Yota Imports indicated that the front axle job was completed and the leaks were sealed.

Well, they were sure sealed because there was NO grease in the knuckle to leak. The trunnion bearings (both uppers) were destroyed and the inside of the knuckle was toast.

Downright negligence.

Beno, there really is no better way to keep them from leaking. I think you are being too hard on them.🤣 I mean that is truth in advertising. Front axle does not have any oil or grease leaking from it does it?

I'm in the same predicament with Duke at Yota Imports. He delivered the truck without fulfilling our agreement on parts which were paid for, I should have walked away at this point from the deal. He talks in circles and overtly makes promises he never keeps.
I spoke with him yesterday and received the usual run around. Litigation is next. I sincerely would advise anyone looking for a JDM Land Cruiser to look elsewhere. Beno is correct in stating downright negligence.

It's an unfortunate thing that anytime you are dealing with a small vehicle pool that is not that common of a thing, scumbags seem to always pop up and take advantage of the unwary.
I am coming into the Land Cruiser hobby from a few decades of nothing but Land Rovers. It's the same way over there. The community keeps a pretty close eye on the s***e heads. But every few months some poor sucker who is just getting into the hobby gets hosed by some shady dealer or vendor. And, they love to change their names all the time, which makes tracking them really hard for someone who hasn't been around for a long time.

Listen folks: This isn't difficult to understand.

As these vehicles become more "wanted" or are becoming more popular with the general public of classic or weird car market, you are going to get more and more s***box a$$clowns whom are going to take advantage of this aspect of buying non-US Land Cruisers.

Again, as a reminder: anyone selling you a gray-market, non-US Land Cruiser is STILL a used car salesman. That's the long and the short of it. Take that as you want. You are still buying a 25+ year old used car. Translate that to the US market. If you have some semblance of rational control over your billfold, you will use that rationality more wisely when buying a used car.

Prospective buyers need to do their due diligence. None of this is rocket science. But most of the people buying non-US 7x series Land Cruisers are usually ignorant of vehicles in general; Land Cruisers more specifically. They are usually looking for "bright shiny cool objects" that reinforce subjective wants.

If you are planning on buying non-US Land Cruisers, I highly recommend deep pockets. Before and after.

Well said. These old vehicles are a do your own mechanics game, not someone who takes their car to the shop unless their pockets are deep for sure. Imagine a 25 year old Chevy truck with marginal maintenance. I think we all know how that would go. These things are the rest of the worlds Chevy truck.

@beno speaks the truth.

I am going to start telling the story of my truck and interactions with Yota Imports and let him be in charge of either good press or bad press.
Here goes...
In my initial dealings with Duke I expressed concern about passing emissions. By text, he “guaranteed” it would pass. The Prado was delivered to me at a specialty garage and it was given a thorough inspection. After the inspection they stated that it was as advertised and a truck that ran well and had no obvious problems. At this point I trusted (foolishly in retrospect) that this truck was fine and would pass.
It did not pass the opacity tests - it was smoking too much. (Limits are 30% and it was as much as 50% at two speeds). Since that time, a shop and myself have tried to diagnose where our problem lies. The MAP sensor was bad and has been replaced and it has now failed on retest with marginally better results.
I have contacted Duke and he is looking in to the problem over the weekend. I have told him that if no satisfactory solution has been brought forward by Monday, I would expect him to either open up a line of credit at a shop in order for them to make any necessary repairs or refund my money for the truck.
Now before anybody says that I should expect these issues on a 25 year old truck, I agree, and I did. However, I received a “guarantee” that the vehicle would pass emissions.
I will let this story write itself from here - updates will keep coming...
