If you are planning on buying non-US Land Cruisers, I highly recommend deep pockets. Before and after.

I strongly dissagree with this , there are plenty of BJ70/73’s around that don’t break the bank to purchase them and they need only basic maintenance to keep them going. However if you want to have any ‘rare’ or ‘exotic’ 25+ year old non domestic vehicle that needs to be full option and in pristine condition , preferably with a baselining consisting out of 80% of non neccesary replacements/repairs then yes this is gonna be an expensive trip with guaranteed worst return investment.

But you really can drive a base 70 series for next to nothing if you are ok to do your own maintenance and are not trying to get it in better then new condition but just do necessary repairs and keep on enjoying it untill it becomes time where it is wiser to cannibalize it and get one with lesser miles/years and repeat what you where doing. I know several people that have been doing this for over 20 years and over a million miles, they never had a monthly payment or any repairs above 2k ( ok these people live in Europe and parts and cruisers are cheaper there..... for now)

Just my 2 cents after driving 70 series since 1990

I am going to start telling the story of my truck and interactions with Yota Imports and let him be in charge of either good press or bad press.
Here goes...
In my initial dealings with Duke I expressed concern about passing emissions. By text, he “guaranteed” it would pass. The Prado was delivered to me at a specialty garage and it was given a thorough inspection. After the inspection they stated that it was as advertised and a truck that ran well and had no obvious problems. At this point I trusted (foolishly in retrospect) that this truck was fine and would pass.
It did not pass the opacity tests - it was smoking too much. (Limits are 30% and it was as much as 50% at two speeds). Since that time, a shop and myself have tried to diagnose where our problem lies. The MAP sensor was bad and has been replaced and it has now failed on retest with marginally better results.
I have contacted Duke and he is looking in to the problem over the weekend. I have told him that if no satisfactory solution has been brought forward by Monday, I would expect him to either open up a line of credit at a shop in order for them to make any necessary repairs or refund my money for the truck.
Now before anybody says that I should expect these issues on a 25 year old truck, I agree, and I did. However, I received a “guarantee” that the vehicle would pass emissions.
I will let this story write itself from here - updates will keep coming...

Could probably lean it out via the spill control valve just to get through emissions testing. But thats sort of beside the point.

Can these sellers buy and import a Landcruiser and resell it in the US? Or do they need you to buy the car and they act as your agent?

Im not sure how much people are paying to import Landcruisers, but if its in the vicinity of $20k I would be spending $2k to go check it out myself.

Hello,

x2.

It is unwise to spend money you cannot afford to lose.

Time for an update on my dealings with Duke and Yota Imports....
Duke has sent the ladder that he promised to me and went above and beyond and even sent me some shorter legs for the rack that I was requesting (couldn’t fit in the garage)
He also agreed to paying the bill for a shop to make it emission compliant in Colorado.
At times, I became frustrated with Duke during this whole process, but in the end he has come through with all of his promises and has delivered me a good vehicle. I think he has a good heart and wants to do the right thing, but may sometimes get too many irons in the fire.
But again, he did deliver on everything promised and then some.
