Hi everyone,

So I have taken the plunge to start this project. York air compressor on a 3B.

My truck never came with air, so I need the pulley for air on the engine. so if someone has one for sale please let me know before I hound the dealership and search the junk yards.

I bought a York 10 cfm model for 100 bucks, got the air tank today, off a airbrake truck for 25.

Now its switches and fittings. then make a interesting bracket for the york to mount to the engine. My compressor has the original brackets with idler for tensioning. so I just need a angle and pick up the hole pitch on the engine keeping the pulley alignment.

My tank will fit nicely above the transmission skid plate.

I will post pics as I go along and if someone has part numbers of pressure switches and what not they would like to add that would be great.

Currently I am looking for a px sw with on at 95 and off at 135 psi. with a safety blow off at 150 on the tank. so if anyone has a part number for that switch great. I prefer it in 1/4" NPT on one side. but 3/8 may be doable.

I am hoping to get all the parts for under $200 thats canadian.

all the hoses are 3/8 red air line hose/

will post as I go! May be over a long period. not this week end.

cheers

Thanks brownbear, that would be great, as I am soon to start on the air thing as well, and wouldn't mind seeing how yours turns out. especially all of the plumbing into the tank.
Cheers,
Deny

Some friendly advice... Air-line hoses cannot withstand the heat from a York. The first 3-4 feet on the pressure side should be the original A/C hoses installed with the York in the original car, as they can handle the heat.

I just blew a airline hose on Sunday due to running the york steadily... my airline hose starts about 3 feet from the compressor, but after an few hours of frequent operation, it got so hot and weak that it boew out even that far down the line.

I did not know that. Thanks. Will have to find a high heat aircraft hose, as I do not have the hose from the wreakers. But I got lots of aircraft hose. :D

Coat your tank with some Hippo-Liner or rubberized rockerguard to protect from stone chips. They rust like propane tanks, quickly and badly.

What uses will you have for the compressed air?

ya the hippo liner would be a good idea. But the tank I got is already rusty. Its off a airbrake system on a big truck.

uses for air? like he said a Million. I own lots of air tools, so that will make me portable. Been wanting a compressor for home, won't have to if my truck has one. can run a impact, air nailer, grinder, fill tires, air mattress, run lockers(if I go that way) and many other things.

Plus it is a fun project to build. Takes a while to build up the parts and not over pay. But getting there.

so far, I got the compressor/tank/ pressure swith 90-120. now I need reg, filter, lines, gauges, blow off valve. yup getting there.

no one has a factory air conditioning pulley for a 3b do they? will other toyota ones fit???

I think we used double pull off a mini truck or possibly a 2F power steering pully.

They mount a little different but we were able to use the large nut that holds the pullies on.

Might have to find a simular pully setup and machine out the centre to fit, I found many lots of simular pullies at the wreckers here in town.
