I did a bunch of measuring, one that stood out was the lower edge of front fender to axle centre, 15”…

So yeah I’ll be spacing bump stops down, but not yet.

Pretty sure at this point I’m going to find a happy medium on conflicts and carry on. Perfect, no, drivable, yes.

I’ll play around some more before I cut, bend or weld.

The issue is when your wheel is turned to the left, drivers side at full bump, passenger side at full drop. The drag link and pitman arm/ball joint all want to occupy the same space.
Yes, I see it.

Looks like that’s on a Saginaw steering box?
The shaft diameter and spline count are different between the two (Scout Saginaw and FJ60), yah?
That's a Scout box. No idea of spline counts

Thoughts after dinner and a bevy or 2…

So the dropped pitman arm reduces the (edit) drag link angle on road and likely 99% of “gravel travel” off roading, seems if I’m going to give up “performance” it will be the 1% spent at or near full articulation.

So tonight’s train of thought is leave the drop arm alone and plan to space the bump stops as required. This will also let me run the box mounted further aft and reduce the other angle on the (edit) drag link.

Win-Win-Loose.

What am I missing in this rationale?

Opinions are like arsewholes…everyone has one, share away!

Here is the approx position at ride height

That’s a good way to approach it. The question is will you be happy with it or will you always think maybe I should have bent it out a little for clearance? But that’s just something that you can go back at later with out to much trouble.

Agree
Shackle angle if that's at ride height is way to straight..
What do they look like at full droop?
Agreed, I think it’s bound up on the saw horses a bit, I went through all the angles when I did the shackle measurements and the spring hanger locations.

Full droop

Thank you, yes nothing is forever, at some point compromises lead to progress.

I had to take some of the bend out of mine in the press.
I’m going to sandblast that pitman this weekend, if I was to flatten it out a bit after- do I heat it first or is that a no-no for some reason?

Love the feedback in here gents 👍🏻

Today I took some drop outta the pitman arm on my press and then mocked it up again.

Full lock and tire will be into the fender long before interference on the arms.

Paint dry on the pitman arm, no paint on splines…torqued to only 50 ftlb on the bench but surprised the splines didn’t go further?
:hmm:

Got some info on my steering issue, chineesium 80 box has slightly large splines…so just get it tight and move on. At least I know now from someone I trust.

Will be my last day in the office, lunch for the crew and handout Xmas bonus, will be happy for a break.
