Rear U bolts on & torqued…FSM says 60 ft-lbs, sure doesn’t feel very tight. 🤷🏼‍♂️

Didn’t get the caliper adapters on but did look up recommended torque values for metric bolts in aluminum, everything is in sheer so I’ll stay on the low end I think with some blue locktite for good measure.

Also did a quick rear shock measure, 24” at droop and 9 1/2” to the bump stop.

I’m sure there is a more technical method and I’m a long ways from buying shocks, but it seems like good math as there should be lots of travel left at compression.

All day in the shop, mostly helping/learning how to replace 2 bad lifters on a 351 with my son and his friend, lucky buddy is Ford guy and was very helpful . I never have tore into a V8 before so happy to learn.

Actually ended up in the shop today, attempted to progress the Pig a bit but the knuckle bearings don’t seem to slide onto the steering arms, but then the old ones don’t either…is that just how they are? 🤷🏼‍♂️

Did get the inner seals installed, but didn’t get the knuckles on 🙄

Man, some days are like that - one step forward, two steps back.

At least you got something done!

They aren’t going to freely slide on the arms, you have to pull them in … I cross across top then bottom, swap until seated.
Ok thanks for that, I wasn’t going to grease everything up and get stuck in the middle with a mess, part of the problem with having this drag on for so long is I forget what things “felt like” coming apart.

That is a peril of letting things drag out too long.

Afternoon in the shop, son came out and held it while I torqued everything.

Plan to hang it tomorrow. Of course I found some rusty hardware for the wipers so soaking overnight in evaporust.

I’ll also need to move a ton of crap to get at my press so I can instal the rotors on the hubs.

Not enough Pig time today, and then I’m finding everything I want to assemble needs more prep, so I wrote a list…I hate lists, but needed one.

Son did come out and help me get the springs and front axle stuffed, so progress 👍🏻

Son helped me shuffle shop this morning, back at it.

My brother gave me this press when I built my shop, I didn’t realize it was both old and locally built. 😎

I’ll need to figure out what the caliper bolts are supposed to be, searched high and low tonight for 4 identical bolts, the only ones I found seem to match the rear backing plate bolts 🤷🏼‍♂️
