One less thing to cram inside the truck

Not the most professional install, but this water tank lets me carry more fuel (in jerry cans on the bumper) which means more nights far away from civilization!

Where did you get those steel wheels! I have been looking with no luck.

Wow, you have been busy. Did you make the table mount?

I used a Eezi Awn mount with a couple new holes drilled to fit the Front Runner rack in the position I wanted it. I'm still toying with the idea of mounting it perpendicular to the truck, so I could fit more stuff under the rack, but haven't gotten around to it.

That's a fuel tank hanging down on angle braces and metal straps?

It is a water tank. My original plan was to put a real fuel tank there, but the cost and difficulty with the charcoal canister (mine is a 2003) changed my mind. Instead, I carry gas in jerry cans and water in that tank...which is around 12 gallons. That'll get me a couple extra days away from water sources and with 3 jerry cans of gas on the bumper, another 150 miles or more of range. Usually by then I'm ready for a bit of civilization.

Understand, I have a 2000 and didn't have to deal with the charcoal canister issue.

Good on you! Truck looks good after being pretty well traveled.

Does the hanging water tank mess with your balance when on side hills or slopes?

I generally can't tell the tank is there. When fully loaded with all the gear for camping, a full tank and 3 jerry cans of gas plus 12 gallons of water underneath the truck is for sure a heavy beast. The OME 864 springs do a great job with all the weight and the truck handles surprisingly well.

Took an unplanned and unexpectedly steep, narrow, boulder-filled trail this weekend with all that stuff, and at one point noticed (while looking out the window to make sure a large rock wasn't going to chew up the rear door) my daughter reading in the back seat as if we were on the highway. I silently felt justified in having spent so much on the suspension!

@perrobravo What manufacturer air bags do you have in those springs and what are your thoughts on them? Did you T them to a single Schrader valve or are they independent?

The air bags are by AIR LIFT, bought here: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000CFO0EU/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?ie=UTF8&psc=1

I used 2 separate Schrader valves when I installed these a couple years ago. Back then I had different springs (First OME 865, then Slee Heavies) that needed the airbags even on routing camping trips to prevent pretty significant rear sag. Problem solved until I went off pavement where having the airbags took away (of course) the majority of the articulation. Since installing the OME 864 springs, I haven't used the air bags once.

Thank you sir. I am going to tow a travel trailer that has about a 400 lb. hitch weight. Will need something to help level it without changing springs. I want to keep it pretty stock (at least for the next couple of years) as I have my other land cruisers for the heaviest work

Sorry to bump an old thread, but it was great following your journey with this truck from year 1. Well done, very tasteful and meaningful build, definitely no hype. Makes me wish I made an annual thread.
