Thanks for the offer mate but everything is still sitting in Ipswich and havent got it up this far yet. I actually have 2 kelpies which are brothers.

I thought originally blocks were painted black?

How hard can this really be and this is just the front section. I havent begun to unwrap and look at the rear section of wiring.

Nice original truck! Great work!
About the year it was build: I am the owner of the car in this tread:https://forum.ih8mud.com/threads/71-fj-build-ugly-betty.204950/
It is a 4-'71 USA FJ40. As you can see it has a completely different dashboard compared with yours. I found out that at the end of '69 Toyota made a new soft dash because of legislations in the US. So how can we explain your old school style dash (which I like best): Are there differences in dashes between US and the rest of the world. Or maybe you have an early body on a later chassis?

Thanks for the info mate. I have checked SOR.COM and according to the VIN/ENGINE numbers it would have been build somewhere between May and September 1971. I have also checked the VIN plate against the Chassis Number and they are the same which leads me to believe that it is original. Given that it is a RHD (Which I also believe to be original) I dont think that it was ever a USA vehicle. However the tail lights and lack of indicators on the rear still puzzle me as to its origin as I believe that in Aust it was mandatory to have amber indicators on both front and rear of the vehicle. What I can not find out through all my searches is what other countries used these tail light set up besides the USA especially in a RHD vehicle.

Christmas has come early here in Cooktown. Got this today and will post some more pics when I unpack it tomorrow.

Like a kid in a lolly shop at the moment :) have to start doing a bit more to her in the next couple of weeks and hopefully have a rolling chassis again.

Suspension is all in except for the rear shocks. Still got to work out the rear spring hanger angles. Pulled the swivel hubs down and now just got to clean them up and put a new kit through them. Splines look like they were bought yesterday and will post some pics when I get them cleaned up.

I knew I wouldn't be disappointed watching your thread-----very nice!

Thanks mate. Just ordered the Swivel Hub Kit so that I can get that part done. Then I just have to work out what is going on with the brake cylinders and get them put back together which I dont think is going to happen for a while as there is a bit of confusion here between suppliers as to what brake cylinders actually go into her. There was a change over I believe around September 1971 and as I dont have an exact month of build it is making it difficult. I might just end up pulling them all out and getting them rebuilt.

Looks good mate

Couple of pics of the axles after they were pulled out.

I was having a look at the inside of the swivel hub and always thought that there should be a seal inside to stop the diff oil leaking into the swivel hub but I can not find any seal in there only this???????????. Is this the seal for the early models.

Hi Ken
You need to take a photo looking down the diff housing.
That's were the seal should be.
Cheers

Thanks Bambi. I have put a couple of more posts up and from what I can tell through other members (Thanks Poser) it is a ball and claw axle set up and that the brass bush is the seal on these. Although it is strange that he also mentions that it was on a 67 and earlier model??????????. Here are the pics of the set up for the stub axle/axle and the link to Posers reply https://forum.ih8mud.com/threads/re...knuckle-seal-orientation.135627/#post-9367461

Wow, yeah that ball and claw design is old-school, and I believe you are correct those all pre-date the inner axle seal and only have a brass bushing, which, by the way, is no longer available pretty much anywhere.
