Not sure what year my "JADE"new FJ40 is. The VIN plate is missing hopefully this will help me identify what year it is. I was originally told it started life in South Africa.

Year - ???????
Engine Number - F356747
Chassis Number - FJ40106581
Block - 10609.

As Rudi already mentioned your frame number indicates it's a June/July 1971 Build

Yeah Bambi Girl its in Cooktown where I live. Dont really know why it hasnt got much rust maybe because it has been in a shed. I have been on another couple of forums and by the looks of the interest I should buy it and add another $1000.00 and would still have no dramas selling her.
Nice find Ken,

Looks like Cooktown has lots of hidden gems.... I found this '71 FJ55

Not sure what happened with it as I was unable to transport it to SA.

Looking at SOR's website http://www.sor.com/catframe.sor It was made 6/71. Comparing this chart to FJ40s I have with a second VIN plate on the A pillar the number on the chart is the start of the month not the end of the month.

Like I posted before I would hang onto the small amber turn signals attached to the back frame member. By the mid sixties Toyota was making a special tail lights for the Australian market. It was right around this same time Toyota started installing Koito reflectors in the US market. Guess it was about this time Toyota was installing special requirements at the factory instead of making changes after they were imported. Since your came from Africa those were installed to register in Australia. This was easier than replacing the rear frame member to the one Australian FJ40s got at the factory and then using the Australia only tail lights.

OK so we are going to go with a 1971. Now after surfing MUD and other sites I am still unsure what colour it is. According to the year and paint charts it should be Judson Greet, paint code 632 correct. I have pulled up a couple of old pics from MUD and I dont think it is Judson Green. I have found pics which say it may be Mint Green@Seafoam Green@Spring Green. This is really doing my head in. This is the fuel fill spout which I figure would be the most protected and less faded part being on the inside.

I have also attached a couple of pics from earlier MUD. threads.

Started going through some of the extra gear that I got when I bought JADE. There was boxes of stuff and here is some of it which I am really happy about.

Well the sand blaster has had a few issues with his compressor and the new one has arrived so hopefully he should get started tomorrow or early next week. I went over there today and decided to rip the diffs out off the frame so that he can get into everything. This is how she looks now.

Probably get the tub blasted as well and also buy a suspension kit. Will then start putting her back together after that. Will fit the suspension kit before the tub goes back on and then pull the hubs and axles down and redo them. Will take it from there.

Hi Ken
All good .
Did it come apart ok or did you have your fair share of rusted bolts?
Keep the photos coming .
Cheers

Looking forward to the transformation. Nice find sir

I was pretty amazed with it all. I reckon that all up I had about 10 bolts that either snapped or had to be cut. Prior to pulling her down and during the pull down I used this on every bolt and it works a treat to loosen them. I have 2 weeks off work now and will start to tidy up some of the bits and pieces that I have pulled off so that they are ready to put back on. Will post some pics when I get them done.

very nice find, and you're moving along well. This thing actually looks like fun to me-can't wait to see the progress--

When I can find it Chuck I will post some pics. Well I have started to clean up a few bits and pieces while I wait for the Chassis to come back. Here are some pics of what has been done so far.
