I am thinking about adding the Yakima Megawarrior Rack to my 80. I have the stock roof rack installed so my question is what other parts do I need to mount the rack to my stock setup?

Yakima Megawarrior Rack
Yakima Extension Basket

Also, any pics would be greatful for those that are running this rack!

What do you plan on puttin in the basket?
I only ask because, the factory roof rack is only rated to carry about 100#s, so after installing the megaworrior and extension, that leaves you 55#s of actual cargo.
The factory rails are just screwed into the roof skin, so I wouldn't push that weight limit.

2 Kayaks at the most--pretty light

The above photo has meag rack towers and crossbars which I think they rate at 150 LB.

I ran that setup for a awhile. You will want 3 or 4 crossbars. Just search craigslist for yakima 1a gutter mounts. Can be had cheap.

Here's mine...was my old set up, though I didn't have the extension

I use the Megawarrior with the extension and just two cross bars. It hasn't flown off my truck and seems to work fine. Maybe three cross bars would be safer and/or look cooler, but two have worked just fine for me. Just my two cents.

Hi. I just saw this convo and thought I'd chime in. I just bought my 1st LC, a 92. Actually waiting on it to be delivered from Los Angeles to me here in Maine. I've been wrestling with which rack is right. I to have a factory rack now, but wanted something more for sure. I almost ordered a Mega tonight, but my heart has bee leaning toward a Baja Rack. The wait is longer, price is higher; but for $628, you get a standard rack, basket style, that is 12" longer than the Mega, and it comes with the 6 gutter mounts. Weight capacity is an impressive 300lbs.

Haven't wanted to put the loot out/wait for the delivery, but I think it's worth considering if you have the dough. It looks super good, to boot.

In finds leaning towards the Yakima because it can be had locally and all their excesories mount to it.

Anybody have any other brands they like? I may want two. I have a Ford Expedition and the 91 LC.

@SUMMIT CRUISERS I was wondering about your opinion with the proline-165 gutter mount system you installed. Are the gutter mount feet worth buying and how is the strength of the cross bars?

Note to self - don't tighten the Yakima gutter towers too tightly. A few months ago I was at Lowe's buying a 28' extension ladder (strapped to the cross bars) and thought i'd crank em down just one more turn for good measure. Before I drove off i heard a loud "ting" and the metal piece broke in two. It could have been related to the 10F temperature and the metal becoming brittle.

I ended up unloading the ladder, driving across town to buy a new tower, and then was able to make it home safely with the ladder on top.
