To those with an "RV" designated Troopy, Ive been wondering 2 questions:

1. Do those with a 6 seat configuration have the mounting points to change to an 11 seat? I guess in general do all troopies have all seat config mounting? My understanding is (pre 1996) you have a 3 seat, a 6 seat, and an 11 seat standard, but I don't know what interchangeable.

2. For the passneger seat, I hear that they slide forward AND rotate making it easier to get in on the 6 seat model. Does anyone have pictures or a video of what that looks like?

Any insight is appreciated :)

Short answer is "no". I can't answer all your questions, but I do know that some Troopies came without provision for any rear seats, because that's how mine was (Euro market BJ75). When I added the side-facing rear bench seats, I had to first install the mounting points since there were none there to begin with.

Well...to be strictly correct, there was one mount present (a welded/captured nut under the floor, but no hole drilled through the floor to access it). That one mount turned out to be very helpful. You might scout around under your floor to see what, if any, mounts are under there but not used.

Mine was fitted for the side-facing rear benches... 11-passenger.

It did not have equipment in place for converting to 6-passenger. The floor is stamped with ribs appropriately, but the places in the floor for the mounts are simply blanked.

Mine is a 1991 FJ75, general market spec.

Thank you! That makes sense, I have been looking at AUS troopies, and I am fond of a few vehicles which are in the 6 seat setup. That works for my family situation now, but in the future Id rather have the side seating. I would suspect that adding side seats to a 6 seater would be easier than adding a 3 seat bench to an 11 seater since that bench folds and attaches to lugs in the floor that Honger is saying arent present. Did you have to source and weld in the little bracket on top of the wheel well for your install?

I did have to source them (found them at a wrecker when I was living in Australia), but I didn't weld them in, just bolted (works fine). If they can't be found, it would be fairly easy to fabricate something that would suffice.

Keep in mind that the side-facing rear seats are great to use as a place to hang out inside the Troopy, or to take a bunch of people down a dirt road to get to a campsite, or even as "cots" to sleep on, but I'd think twice before having passengers ride back there while driving on the road. Consider the physics of a front (or side) impact at speed. Not pretty. Front facing, with lap and shoulder belts is much safer I would wager. Just a thought.

That is good to know, I havent spent nearly enough time in the back of the troopy to check out the mounting situation.

And I totally agree, that's why I'm feeling fond of the 6 seater while I have bodies to take care of while driving. Luckily its not a main method of transportation for them, but I still feel better about forward facing seats for that reason. But I like the "cot" and off road people hauling of the side seats. There are also a few cool options form AUS for very nice shoulder belted engineered seats for people transport.

I think you have had a few Troppies, where you ever in a RHD version in the states before your current LHD?

Nope. Only LHD in the USA. I've driven many 1000's of km's in Australia and the UK in RHD cars, but of course, that's "normal" there. Never in the US. Not my deal. Doesn't matter to some folks, but I think I'd find it awkward. Just one man's opinion.
