For the "B"day the cruiser :princess: got me a xm radio Rx for the 80
I got the add-on unit that uses a FM mod. (yeah I know its not "true" digital sound but Im cool with it )
Now for installing everything inside will be a snap but where have you guys installed the ant . ?
The one in the kit is a magnet style base.
Id drill a hole in the roof but the connector is the thick of a AA batt. hanging on the end of a thin wire so no hole will be drilled.

A little idea here or there will help :D

Thanks

I got XM in May-this has to be one of the best mods ever. Not as good as 4.88s and 35's but close. My antenna is on the rear roof and just the thin wire comes through the weater seal and doesn't leak. No holes needed to be drilled. I'll snap a pic if you want but it will take me a couple of days. We were listening to "the Joint" all through Hell's Revenge in Moab.

Your saying its comming though the rear hatch at the top, right ?
Ill have to look into it as I was like a kid with a new toy and trying to get a idea in the dark
Thanks I'll look into it  (at work on their time :D )

You have it right. My magnetic mount sits on the rear of the roof and the wire comes into the cabin at the top of the hatch.

i have sirius -- i just run the line along the bottom of the truck, up throught the side weather-stripping on the hatch, then it sticks to the roof on the outside (magnet) --

ps - my best mod ever -- i won't listen to normal radio any more --

Happy Bday Koffer. You're lucky the :princess: didn't tell you to move on your day. :flipoff2:

Bring that pos up here. We'll plasma out a nice 3'x6' hole into the roof for ya and get you a hat antenna for the reception. :flipoff2:

So what keeps someone from stealing the antenna?

because i don't think it has much value -- it's specific to sirius, and the plug that goes in the back of the unit is temperamental -- if you jerk it out a few times, it won't work any more -

Point of comparison: My XM antenna is rn the same as Erics. The dealer originally said they'd run it out thru the windshield gasket and it wouldn't leak...RIGHT! I ran it the same as Eric: inside, under carpets, etc. etc.

I put my XM on a L-bracket that came with the kit and then glued it down to the little slot where the cup holder above the radio would be. Nice little setup.

I also have Sirius, and my ant. is in the cruiser on the dash.

I also have Sirius. The antenna on the dash worked for a while but as the trees filled out this year the reception got worse and would cut in and out a lot easier. I moved it to the roof and it now works great. I ran my antenna wire behind the driver's seatbelt pillar cover, into the headliner and along side the sunroof drainage tray with the magentic antenna on the roof in front. The sunroof closes on the wire but not tightly as the roof floats and I still have full use of my roof rack.

The guys I talked with convinced me to mount it on top of the snorkel concealing the cable inside. I have yet to pull the trigger on the XM because I'm cheap but I’m close.

Side-jack… How come some of you are with Sirius I don’t see the advantage.

Phil

I also have Sirius. The receiver is mounted on the bracket once used for the sub woofer. I mounted the antenna just fwd of the rear hatch. The antenna cable is run inside the RH D pillar up to the center of the rear hatch. I drilled a hole in the inside radius stuck in a grommet and sealed it with PRC. The antenna has the magnet but due to the neighborhood and for security reasons around tree branches I added double sticky tape.

I must say it's the best $$ spent next to speakers when it comes to car audio.

Koffer,
Come on you :princess: , don't you have that pos in yet? :flipoff2:

Yeah ,
it came out real well I'll take some pixs and post them soon
Now I have to see if it works just finished signing up and the credit card worked too :D (unlike yesterday when I went to buy a stove and they decided it was a good time for the credit fraud "safety" should kick in and make me look like a dead beat  so out came the cash and then he "had" to look at all the bills and hit each one with the marker to make sure everything was on the up and up )
I was nice enough to tell the CC company "thanks for making look like a "A"hole on my birthday in a nice big store " I buy stuff all over the US on the internet but spending $200 at my local Staples last week tosses a red flag  WTF
Oh well shat happens

I originally had my XM antenna on the hood, between the washer nozzles, and the wire run through the large grommet on the USDS firewall. I think the engine heat toasted the antenna, so I've just picked up a new one and have it sitting on the dash, inside the windshield.

So far it works pretty well. I'd like to put it on the rear roof, but my rooftop tent will obscure the view of the antenna. Maybe I'll put in on the ARB antenna mount...

Damnit Phil, just go get a Roady and be done with it already!
