What year did they start Xenon lights in the LX?
What year were they adapative?

No US market LX's had OEM Xenon headlights. They all have halogen projectors. All years can be retrofitted.

Thanks for the heads up, guys! I've been looking into this swap for some time now, and this is the first I've heard of such a simple retrofit.....Any reason the two of you went with the 4.3K vs. the 6K or 8K? I'm not sure I know the in's and out's, so any advice you could offer would be helpful. Thanks!

most light output is at 4.3k. Onces you go to the higher color temps it just turns more blue/purple and has no where near as much light output. If you want to be uber cool with the rice burners at your local parking lot, then ied suggest you get 8k+ color temp. If you want effective headlights, get the 4.3K color temp.

Also, that 4.3k kit, is almost EXACTLY the same color as our Lexus LS430 headlights...so it gives a nice factory look....and with 4x more light as the halogen bulbs.

Hey now, I retrofitted a Gen 4 nav cpu and voice system into my truck, I don't think OEM Lexus HIDs are beyond me :)

The more technical explanation that 4.3K's output more light is longer wavelengths (e.g., 4.3K) experience less atmospheric scattering (than 6K). So more light hits the road in front of your vehicle.

Just got my kit in yesterday......If I can figure out where to mount everything, I'll be installing in the next few days

I bought an extra pair of those gray plastic caps for the back side of the head lamps (only $4 each at the lexus dealer..amazingly cheap!). They come w/ the wire that connects the H1 bulb to the vehicle's harness. I cut off that wire end, then soldered that to the xenondepot harness. This allows one to completely swap in/out the OEM halogen bulbs in minutes (just unplug the xenondepot harness, remove bulb, insert halogen bulb, put on unmodified gray cap, plug into vehicle's harness) and uses factory connectors for better reliability, plus you don't have to cut the plug off the factory harness. I keep the halogen H1's and original caps in one of the rear compartments in case a HID bulb dies while on a road trip or something. BTW, I attached the thin Philips ballasts to the side wall next to the airbox and next to the fuse box. For drilling the hole, IIRC, I used a 7/8" hole saw bit, which was 1mm shy of the one spec'd in the instructions (by wiggling it around after drilling, you can slightly enlarge the hole and wiggle the H1 bulb through). I also swabbed the bulbs w/ rubbing alcohol before installing just in case they touched anything accidentally. I ran the power leads directly to the battery. I used a second battery w/ jump cables so the vehicle wouldn't lose power while connecting the harness (so I didn't lose my nav settings).

Jim, part numbers?

Info on part #81125-6A080...

My local dealership want's $42 each for these covers. I called Sewell Lexus to see if it would be much cheaper and they also quoted $42 each plus the required shipping.

To say that these covers are just a few bucks is a little misleading. At about $85, this is a significant expense. Be careful drilling out your caps. I used a quarter (.25 cents) for a template and it worked out well for me...but I won't be buying these replacement caps to have laying around for $80. Lesson: drill the caps out right the first time.

Also, I installed a Prolumen H1 5K kit and I had to move the bulb around in the bulb holder to get rid of the hot spots. I made some shims to shim the bulb out of aluminum foil tape and now the spread of light is perfect and the cut-off is sharp...not the case if you just put the bulbs in without moving them around a bit to find the sweet spot.

Got the kit from a groupbuy on Bimmerforums for $255 shipped.

You've got to be kidding! I paid only $4 EACH at my local dealer (Lexus of Tucson).
