Xenon lights?

The more technical explanation that 4.3K's output more light is longer wavelengths (e.g., 4.3K) experience less atmospheric scattering (than 6K). So more light hits the road in front of your vehicle.

are you sure that this is a significant factor, given the short distances involved?

You've got to be kidding! I paid only $4 EACH at my local dealer (Lexus of Tucson).

*That's what I said* when the parts lady gave me the first quote on my first try...then to Sewell for the $4 quote and BAM...$42 dollars each. I have the factory manual and was there when they looked up the part on the fisch...we're talking about the same part.

I assumed that it wouldn't/couldn't be a $4 part. At least for me and my luck. It's a non-universal part with: a gasket/factory mini harness that's integral to the part/specialized connectors at both ends. Even with the economy of scale production, I was expecting to pay $10-12 bucks...but 45, no way.

Jim, I'm about to make the swap, and I want to have the same "safety factor" for bulb replacement the way you did. Accordingly, I'd like to have some spare dust caps. Can you verify the part numbers you used or could I just send you TWICE what you paid and have you buy me a couple of caps? Like others have said, there's no way I'm gonna spend $85 for caps, but at even twice what you paid, it'd be worth it! 1loudLX, you also mentioned they're only a few bucks each....you have any sources for purchasing these caps?

I'm showing a dealer price of $22ea now. Maybe prices went up. I remember the LAND CRUISER rear badge was once $40, and is now over $100.

Do you guys know if this kit is 100 series compatible as well? The web page just says, "...will literally plug directly into your OEM headlight harness..."

no, 100 series low beam is a 9006 bulb.

Okay, I have the P/N in front of me... 81125-6A080 (Cord, headlamp) is what is labelled on the sticker. Yes, it is the gray plastic cap w/ O-ring and mini harness that connects to the H1 bulb on one side and the vehicle's harness on the other.

So these retrofit possibilities (mainly RX and GS on ebay) all have D2S bulbs. Will these not mount into my lights? My LX is H1 or 9006? Gaaaah I'm confused. It's killing be because the retrofits are like $200-$250 cheaper, if doable. That's spoiler money :D

So basically if I buy an ebay RX/GS setup, I'll need to buy rebased H1 bulbs... I think...

The best performing option you have is a D2S based retrofit using some proven HID projectors (TSX,E46,S2000 etc...) and factory hardware (ballasts/ignitors/harnesses). Most certainly not plug and play...but not rocket science either. $$$ and NO compromises.

The other option you have is a rebased H1 kit for your LX. There is a group buy on bimmerforums.com for a Prolumen H1 kit with a Lifetime warranty to the original purchaser from Umnitza. Plug and play. $ and some compromises, mainly in hot-spots/dispersion, width, and cut-off using the unmodded LX halogen projector compared to the above. Still 100% better than the stock set-up tho...

If you buy the RX/GS hardware and bulbs, the bulbs (D2S) will not work your LX (H1) projectors. You can purchase a set of rebased H1 bulbs off ebay that will work with the stock lexus HID ballast/ignitors... BUT you will have to splice the H1 bulb connectors to the factory style D2S ignitors. Sketchy but doable. $$+No warranty. Same compromises as the H1 kit.

I am happy (85%) with the H1 kit that I have. My next step is to mod the LX projectors, eliminating the openings in the cut-off shield. Looks fairly simple but time consuming. This should cure the light scatter that I'm having now.

Yeah I saw that group buy on there. I'm just don't care for having a ballast + igniter when the Denso (Toyota, Lexus) have all-in-one units. I decided I had a pair and bought some on eBay. We'll see what happens. I'll either mod the D2S bulb or buy rebased H1's. We'll see what happens.
