Yep. I need an alternator for my 83 3B BJ60 dual battery 12V system. I'd prefer to find one that's rebuild and/or used. PM me if you have one or can point me in the right direction. I'm in the US...:o

Are you sure the altenator is bad and not just the voltage regulator? Mine has never failed in nearly 500,000km's but I have done 2-3 voltage regulators and a set of brushes.
If you do a search you can get the voltage regulator in Seattle!! Someone posted up the place here a few weeks ago.

Hmm... can't seem to find the thread... I've been looking here in Seattle for a week and haven't had any luck. Bought one from NAPA that they said would work and it was the wrong regulator... I did find the part number...
OEM : 27700-57060 : ±290$
OEM remanufactured for Toyota by Denso 27700-5760-84 : ±80$
Transpo : IN218 - ±30$...

in the last picture, the box on top of the alt. with the green plug... that's the voltage regulator, correct?

yep, it's an internal one. I bought mine 2 months ago from Sheldon at www.gscruiserparts.com. He also sells refurbs. I sent mine back to him as part of the deal. He is in BC, but shipped from WA to bypass customs.

I take the parts across the border and take care of the paperwork at US customs, all legal like. I wouldn't call it a bypass...

The Alternator in the pic is an early coarse spline unit which we do not stock reman and are not available new. If the engine is out of an 83 BJ60 I am pretty sure it should have the newer fine spline shaft and matching vacuum pump.

Sorry, if I made it sound shady, Sheldon. :) I just meant that you take the headache out for your customers in the US, and allow for faster shipping instead of them waiting for an item to clear customs when shipping. I was very appreciative of that.

Not at all.. I just wanted to clarify

Well, that's the alternator in my rig... and that's the regulator as well... I'm still interested in an internal reg for my alternator...

Can you pull the cover plate and check for part numbers on the Regulator, that is assuming it is an IC reg, a lot of the early BJ alternators were externally regulated.
