Wanted 24V alternator for 1987 BJ73 3B Diesel (1 Viewer)

I have an alternator on its last leg.
My OEM Toyota part number 27030-56320.
I am seeing a few eBay specials for 25amp replacements, but nothing in the 30-35amp range.
Had it at a shop locally for 6 months who couldn't track down a replacement or a rebuild kit.

Alternator rebuild shop said the rotor had failed.

Not too uncommon for them to go open circuit. I have a brand new, unused, in box, OEM Toyota / Denso rotor, part # 27330-56110
Would consider selling if I can get a hold of the second one I sold to a friend. And if you might be interested (can take pics)

The alternator part number 27030-56320 was not coming up, but 27020-56320 works

The rotor I have is for alternator part # 27020-56320 (24 volt, 30 amp, external volt regulator).
Alt # 27020-56400 (24 volt, 30 amp, internal volt (IC) regulator. (cold spec)
Both of those alt #'s fit mid to late 80's BJ-70, 71, 73,74 with the 3B or 13B-T engines.
The stator is a different part number as well between the two types. End frames (housings) are same part #

Checked the service manual, rotor specs are:
internal regulator: 8.8 - 9.2 ohm
external regulator: 18.8 - 19.2 ohm



I would need to get $550 CAD for it (plus shipping) to cover what I paid.

My rotor # 27330-56110 (external reg)
Cold Spec rotor 27330-56390 (internal reg)

If you have external volt reg, (non cold spec) then this rotor should be the one.

I just looked at the factory alt tag on my '88 BJ-71 13B-T, and it matches yours 27030-56320
Mine has external regulator. The part number prefixes in the EPC's for complete alternator is 27020, not 27030

Mine has the external voltage regulator as well. I just changed it out to a new one in hopes that would solve the problem. So it is probably the correct one.

I just checked the picture of my alternator tag, and it is 27030, but I often see the 27020 on parts catalogues as well.

Did you ever solve this? I have a parts source out of Pakistan who has gotten some pretty rare parts, like last year he got an internally regulated alternator for a 13B-T engine.

Zubair Safdar +1 (336) 847-9557 he’s a cruiser head. Has a beautiful HZJ77 and lives in north or South Carolina, I forget which. Anyhow, he has family in Pakistan and gets parts for people here. He’s on Facebook and he’s legit and very helpful.
