Did you say sliders for an 80 series???:D

Looks like it's only an hour 15 away from Wichita

I assume this would be BYOS, no?

I might be able to make it, I'd like a rear tire carrier like Zane's fabbed up if possible. I don't know how much it will cost, but I know it can't be too much. I just need to pick up a slee spindle

Maybe put my "new" transfer case in.

Are we still planning on doing an early 2007 wrenching weekend? That's when I'll have all my money to be able to get things done.

Well scratch the tire carrier off the list, the spindle it too much for me to afford right now. I guess I can just try to swap the xfer case, or maybe just help out and learn.

I should be able to make it.

Du, what's the deal with your current case again?
The aluminum where the fill plug bolts into is broken off and leaking. Other than that, nothing else is wrong with it.

I got a whole new HF2AV xfer case for cheaper than it costs for the piece that broke.

I had a picture of the break somewhere, can't find it now.

Are the threads shot or part of the housing around the threads? The housing can be welded if the threads are okay
Most of the threads are gone, it pretty much either needs a new threaded bung welded in place, or have the entire piece replaced.

Not a bad fix, but since I was able to get the "new" case for cheap, and I'd have to take the existing case out to fix it, I'm just going to swap over all the sensors from mine into the "new" case re-install it and call it good. [/run-on]

I would be up for coming down or lending a hand. My 40 is in pieces still. Need to replace the fuel pump on the 4runner before then.

Anyone up for a "holiday" season wrenching weekend? I'm thinking of 12/2 - 12/3.

My plan would be to fab up sliders for the LX - Zane would be in for the same for his 80.

Chris,

Yes I'm in 100% for building some sliders for my 80! I plan on picking up the steel next week here in KC. One Problem.... We are having my daughters 1st birthday party on the weekend you have selected, so I will not be able to make it on 12/2 or 12/3, sorry.

Do you have an alternative date that might work in December? Or would you like to make a second wrinching weekend in February? I know what general design I want, just need the support of a good welder and any suggestions along the way!

Andrew,

I spent $79 in steel from Metal by the Foot here in KC and $38.90 for the latch from McMaster Car part #5071A62 at www.mcmastercar.com . I got lucky and did not have to spend money on a slee spendle (thanks to Bob Garrett) but they run $95.00. You will also need to purchase some wheel studs as well. Happy to let you use mine as a template, but I will not be able to make the December 2 and 3rd weekend...

Zane - crap, but I'm guessing we'll have another in February as well. Quick question - are you planning to use 2x4 or 2x6 tubing under the door sills?

After looking at several of the new slider disigns I think I'm going to do my set up like Hanna Quality. His site says the main bar is 3x4 but I cant imagine that it is that big, but who knows. More than likely it will be 2x4 or 3x4 but NOT 2x6. go to http://www.hannaquality.com/index1.html and you will see the disign I want to go with.
