Hey guys,

I read somewhere recently that the standard cruiser wrench/socket sizes are:

8, 10, 12, 14, 17, 19, 24, 27, 30, 32, 36mm

I know that 10, 12, 14, 17 are the most common, but as I've started to work on the tranny/transfer case I'm finding some big nuts that I don't have the right size tools for. I hate getting stopped by having the wrong tool. Very inefficient.

Can anybody please confirm that the sizes above are the right sizes to have on-hand for general cruiser work? Or, what's missing?

Thanks!

Edit - add 21 & 22mm to the above list.
Also 13mm just in case, since it's a common aftermarket replacement.
6-point 24mm for drain/fill plugs on tranny/transfer/diffs

It's right, and you need the 32 AND 36 are required for transfer case work on FJ60s.

I would add a 13 to this list, as it is almost 100% certain, that someone has used an 8mm bolt with a 13mm head on every Land Cruiser!

I just used a 22mm for removal of the water temperature sender housing. It might be used elsewhere.

Yup, there are a few odd things that take a 22mm, and lug nuts are 21mm.

A must have tool is the left hand metric screw driver. This is the best tool I have for working on my cruiser. See LINK for more details. It is the only way to remove and properly adjust the muffler bearings.

Add a six point 24 mm to the list for the fill and drain plugs on the rears.

6-point is key here as the 12-point will most likely round off the bolt.
