Found this Cruiser, was not planning on buying a 3rd 80, but this seems like it could be a good buy for $800, I am going to take a look and get more details but first thoughts?....would you buy this? Here is the description....still waiting for details.
"Hi, i have a 92 maroon landcruiser that is currently not running. it ran just a few months ago, then the water pump and distributor/rotor were replaced and it has been down for the past few months. this is a perfect winter car for whoever has the time to get it back up running. serious inquiries only."

I wouldn't touch a 3FE unless I was planning an engine swap and the donor was practically free.

X2 I too am anti-3FE ;)

But the difference is you live at altitude (Nay) and there isn't much of that in MN.

If the price were right and you could nail down the 'not running' issue, sure, why not? The 3FE will outlive the FZJ.

I had a 92 just like that and I would pass. Especially in MN if it hasn't been really well cared for. The engine is just too weak unless you want it for a child driver. Not running to means a pass on the thing unless it's free. JMHO

That seems like a good rule...I dont want to sink my soul into the thing to get it running...but then again its a L/C how broken could it be?

Could be as simple as a plug wire not put in the right spot when the put the distrib back in, of course it could be as major as anything too....

Yes, and with the 3ForEver, I will not outlive getting from point a to point b :flipoff2:

Hey, there's nothing wrong with being underpowered. We all are. How much you care is up to you.

Given how cheaply you could get a built FZJ80 that actually runs and has probably been fully baselined, I don't see how you come out ahead if you have modification plans.

Ha ha. Good one Nay. If you can nail down the engine not running, and if the knuckles, tranny, TC seem good I would go with it. If you already have two 80's, I'm sure you know what to look for. I love the 3FE, although to be fair I have never owned a 1FZ (HG scares me. : ). If you can nail down that stuff I would go for it. Mileage?

I say offer $500 for it and do some troubleshooting. If it ends up being something major, part what you can and scrap the rest. Certainly you could get $500 worth of parts and scrap outta that thing! My $0.02...

X2... I have a 60 with a 2F that is a lot stronger. My 1992 80 is used by my daughter to go to college and by me for going on light 4x4 trips.

I would wave at it as I drove by:steer:. (Wouldnt want to hurt its feelings).

Of course. I don't have anything against the owners, the 3FE just ain't for me. :p

I agree with The Nak, give them $500 for it, and give it a shot on getting it running. My guess is it is something simple that someone missed. Worst case is you can part it out and make all of your money back and maybe even more. Before I found this site, I was buying parts at junk yards and headlights were $110 and tail lights were $75 each. So I am sure you could make your money back if you had to.

I'd buy it in a heartbeat. I love 3fe's. But that's only b/c I can see past just some lump of iron in the engine compartment and see what it is, and how to fix it.

I'm gonna save my "compression ratio" speech, cause I'm sure all the guys that have OTHER people work on their $tuff don't want to hear it.

I can say I am amazed at the responses since they get roughly the same MPG, and none of them are rocket ships...

I H8 AT's, but when its rating is almost 3x that of what the truck weighs...that's a point.

anyway...I'm rambling again, sorry. don't you already have two Cruisers? Then what would it hurt to acquire this one? You'd have a great fall-back in case something ever happened to anyone you got now. You could buy a lot of gas, and be in a lot of safety with this thing before you'd come close by buying a shoebox. And you can mod this one and have practically NOTHING in it. Most guys would love to have this, at that price. And, you're lucky. The stiffshirts here (Trashville TN) think something like that would be worth $8k:rolleyes: running. So if I could catch something like that, at a break like that....I'd jump on it with both feet!

buy it, get it running, and leave it alone IMO.

you can search for 2FE, and MAF 9:0.1 compression pistons once you get it:D

Why buy a 3rd? If your current 2 are running fine. 3FE no go and it seems to be a lot of work to get it running...f:censor: it
