After reading bad things about cheap torque wrench accuracy and owning one of these (Grip brand), do you pros think this procedure would give a good ball-park estimate on accuracy? Torque Wrench Test Fixture pictures from motorcycles photos on webshots

If nothing else, I guess it should tell me whether inaccuracies would be on the low or high side.

Are inaccurate torque wrenches consistently low or high at different settings, or are readings all over the place?

Thanks, and yes, I'm broke enough to try this and hope for the best.:frown:

I've check mine before buy putting some weights in a bucket, put the wrench one of your lug nuts and set it so the arm is parallel to the ground. Torque=Force x Distance, so it's just a matter of finding how much weight is in the bucket (use a scale) and measuring the distance from the center of the torque wrench head to the point where the weight is applied.

You could probably do it with sand too. Set the wrench, then pour it into the bucket until it clicks, then weigh the bucket...

Sounds good. I'll try that since I have LOTS of sand and no lead pipe at the house. :p

Thx
