Hey guys,

Long time lurker, and now time to buy. I own a 08 FJ and love it, but now with a family of four we need a bigger car for luggage and just comfort. One of the main ones is my wife might need to sit in the middle between our toddler and newborn and the fj is pretty tight (with the suicide doors and all)

Anyway I found one local to me in SoCal wondering if you guys could take a look at the carfax. They are asking $15,000. I might ask for that price OTD.

I don’t see timing belt being done, but the owner does seem to follow baseline maintenance pretty well. Would love your feedback!

Car fax looks good. Houston would be my concern. If it was serviced in Houston but lived in Galveston or coastal it may have corrosion concern not to mention Katy and Houston are heavy flood areas and owners do not report everything to insurance. Check for weird smells or and and all electrical issues. Seems 15k for a well sorted 05 is a great price (almost to great) as the popularity of the 100series keep growing and a 150k 05 example in socal are usually 18-25k

Ah I didn’t realize that about Houston. I just associate Texas with a big dry desert haha. Thanks for the heads up. Any other areas with the 100 series LX I should double check

Actually went and googled some history. Houston faced flooding in two of the years the LX was there. 2006 and 2008 when Hurricane Ike blew through. For flooding I’m thinking common areas to check are under floor mats, and carpeted areas?

Texas is fine but southeast Texas is a flood zone all other Texas areas are fine. I would request undercarriage photos and stay away from anything that is freshly undercoated or painted. Chassis/body corrosion is the LX/100 is their biggest downfalls and costly to repair. I’d rather buy a high milage car than a low milage car with rust.

Most people who own Land Cruisers or LXs are smart enough not to get their cars flooded.
Houston is a big place, I’d say only 5% might have flooded and most of that was highways that turned into rivers. Also, most Land Cruiser or LX owners have full coverage insurance that would have totaled the vehicle if it flooded.
Do your due deligence but the likelihood of a vehicle from SE Texas being flood damaged and still on the road is remote at best .
