I'm extremely happy with my first off road experience in the cruiser! I'm up in Big Bear at my parents place and took it up a pretty steep washed out road. My cousin was not sure if I should try it, but I decided to see what this 80-cult thing was all about.

Put it in low, locked the rear and took it. Lots of tight turns, concerns about clearance, some deep ravines to navigate due to washouts...a very interesting and fun experience! Lost traction in the rear at one point and started turning to the right sideways, but backed up about 18" and managed to change my track, went up no problem.

Rest of the 3 hours was spent traversing the mountains out by my parents place and trying not to get stuck in the muddy patches all over the place :D

Finally made it back home and apparently we werent supposed to be gone so long, because they sent my dad and uncle out to find out if we got stuck (). They were in my parents Dodge Cummins truck and didnt make it 20 feet up the road before they bailed. When we told them we went up that same road they literally thought we were joking.

Feels good to own a legit offroad vehicle! Now I need to get those mods going :grinpimp:

Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays!

That's great. I did something similar when I first got mine. Still have a big grin on my face. I love my 80! :D

Very cool. It is so fun to hear when someone gets the stoke and appreciates just how awesome of a rig the 80 series is. :grinpimp: Sometimes the unplanned trips turn out to be the best.

The whole trip did a lot to build my confidence in the truck. 300 miles total including freeway, mountain roads, 4x4, normal dirt road, very cold nights...etc. The mountain road handling is better in the 80 than any other car I've driven on the mountain. On a side note, it averaged 15.1 mpg for the whole trip which beats the heck out of the 9.4 mpg I got on my first "city driving" fill-up!

I'm still kinda amazed that bone-stock I was able to take that hill with no damage or racking of the under carriage. There were some good 12"-18"ish loose rocks and 2' deep cutouts...anyway, probably doesnt sound too crazy to you guys, but I was super impressed :p

And as a bonus, my cousin who had been talking smack about cruisers compared to heeps (which he owns) was THOROUGHLY impressed with the 80's raw off-road prowess with zero modifications.

Oh yeah, and now that i have mud all over my car including my beautiful knuckle job....I Hate Mud :D

Sweet now do that hill climb at the edge of the Pacific in Baja with the sun setting and that will turn your knuckles white. Still can't believe I made that hill climb on the course of the Baja 250..... Ahhhh March 07' seems sooo long ago.

Eventually...maybe...depending on how the brass is hanging that particular day :o

Right on. Careful if not used a locked rig, they will take you places other rigs havent and get you into some scary situations!! Glad you are stoked on the 80.

Thanks for the advice, I can see how it could be a problem. In fact, I DID NOT want to go back down that hill, no way
