wont start, no spark, wont shift

i have been driving my 96 landcruiser for years with no problem strarting it, parked it over night and when i got up the next morning it would not start, i tried starting fluid before i checked for spark, which there was no spark from coil. i had to go to work so i was gonna push it out of the way, when i went to put it into neutral it would not go into it, i had to push the neutral release thing in down in the console. any ideas? local toyota is no help on this
