I am having an issue with starting the Hilux. The coil light on the dash isn't coming on and the truck just turns over. I checked the coil fuse and it is ok. I am testing the relay and it is giving me 19.4 ohms, which from what I have read it low. This might or might not cause the dash coil light to come on. Thoughts on this? Should I buy a new relay or dig deeper.
Thanks in advance!

doesn't look like the relay is related to your issue.
possibly the timer or wiring.
maybe this can shed some light

Appreciate your response. Looking into this

Hello,

Has your vehicle started at all with existing issue? Could you clarify model and engine? Is it a diesel? Will it start with starting fluid? Are you somewhere cold? I am away from my books and truck for another week. Will help if I can.

Good luck

Turns out it is the ECU. So just posted I am looking for a replacement. Thanks for your help though. Have a good way to source one? Other than eBay? 89661-3D100 1KZ-TE

I purchased my car initially from this website. Parts are available, can be expensive but do exist. I purchased a replacement intake hose from them with no trouble at all.

I advise as follows... please be sure that your issue is properly diagnosed. Did you do some test where the vehicle did indeed start?? Are you certain pn is 89661-3D100? Call a Toyota dealership and have them look up the pn you provided. I don't think they will find it but worth the 4min. When that does not work and you have not found a better source try the link I copied up top. If it got corrupted; the website is 'beforward.jp'. I found the part by getting to the parts section, and searching '89661'. The one I'm seeing is listed as new and delivered for $981. Think that's your best shot. Have a look at some other parts you may like while at it. Then get away from that site before you spend all your money on kei trucks. Again...

Good luck but be sure that is your issue before spending monies.

Reminds me of a Diesel forklift that failed to start after falling into the ocean. Replaced the fuel pump three times, but issue was a chip under the dash. It didn't help that nobody mentioned the falling into ocean part after it ran again.

It's a diesel right????

Are you sure your truck has an ecu? Did you have the old part in your hand. I'm looking at my drawings and looking at the same page gnob shared. As far as I know I think the 1kz is an old style stupid diesel that does all the on/off and timing magic with the fuel pump. All the ecu stuff I'm seeing references gasoline engine 22r.

From what I can tell the fuel cut off solenoid is connected by a black and yellow wire to electric connector EG8, to 7.5A ignition fuse, to ignition switch.

Glow plugs are nice but not exactly necessary. My opinion on pre-heating timer in this scenario.

Did you try the starter fluid? Diesels fail to run if that fuel cut off solenoid does not get power, air in the fuel lines (were fuel lines disconnected, injectors replaced, filter renewed, did it ever run out of fuel?), timing is off on fuel pump, or lack of compression. If you turn the key and get some starter fluid in it and the engine runs, that proves you have compression. Keep it running on starter fluid and maybe all the air works it's way out of the fuel system. Other than that was the fuel pump removed? Timing should be ok if it never came out. Be cautious with the starter motor; all this cranking will burn one up. I learned this the hard way. This is why I learned to use the fluid. Some people just use a spray bottle filled with some fuel.

I'll pop the hood on my truck and see if I can locate any ecu. I'll look at the engine to verify or prove false my claims. Might even try and make it run of starter fluid with 7.5A fuse pulled.

I think we have the same truck? 94 kzn130? With 3L 1KZ-TE. I really want your truck to run. Again, good luck.
