Drove to car wash and wash off power steering and brake cylinder. I plugged the upper of the dist to keep water out. It did a good job as it ran after I washed it. Drove out of wash and it wont rev over 2200 rpm. I can drives fine until it get up to 2200 rpm. When it gets to 2200 rpm, it cuts the motor right down to 300 rpm. It will do it in neutral or drive.

Any idea?

Water in dist. let it idle and it will drive off and be ok.

Check the spark plug boots. And any electrical connections. Plenty-O-thread here on the same symptoms.

this is a weekly occurrence on here. I think there needs to be a sticky about this subject.

I did several searches but put in wrong data and got nothing, after several more searched I found some like my problem. TPS and FPR were suggested.

Checked all the sensors and they were good.
Stated checking all the plugs. I put dielectric grease in all my plug so I wont have a problem.
Blew air in all the electrical connectors/plugs and found one that is leaking where the wire goes into it. Water blew out when blew it out.
It was the plug in next to the alt where the wires "Y" into to the alt, and to the intake plenum. The plug is the one that is mounted to a bracket.

Wonder if I can get new rubber that goes in the plug or do I have to use RV sealant.

I have hosed my motor of for years and other than the dist getting wet, I have not had a problem.
I put a plug in the vent hole this time and it worked.

The question still is. What part in the motor keeps it from rev'ing over 2200 rpm?

that's a question that is difficult or impossible to answer. The problem is, something is wet. Where, who knows? The water will throw off the readings to the computer, so the whole system is completely buggered for now. What you're doing is the cure, just keep trying to locate plugs that got wet, dry them out, etc. Check everything everywhere. get the engine good and warm, and keep repeating that process. Eventually, whatever is wet, will dry out and the problem should correct itself.

there have been numerous threads on this exact problem all within the last couple months.

Agree there needs to be general awareness that using pressurized water to clean your engine is a bad idea.

There must be a default in the computer where it cuts the motor at 2200 rpm.
I been power washing for years but I guess seals are getting old and dry so that opens up the opportunity for water to inter.

As for pressurized water on motor, I like it. Not only does it clean the motor, it lets you know there is a problem if there is one. I would rather find the problem in town rather than out in BFE wheeling in a mud hole and find the problem.

I know when my distributor is wet, it just misses real bad but the rpm's are not cut.

I had no CEL when it happened.
