Got a new dog and heard about these wireless proximity fences. Any recommendations?

We have the pet safe wireless and absolutely love it.

I have the Petsafe now and had the Invisible before. Both are good products. the nice thing about the IF is that it comes with all the other stuff. flags and training are absolutely paramount. The fence itself doesnt work if you don't do the training right.

and some dogs just dont care about a little zap until they try to come back.

I also tried using it on .25 acres. That didn't work either. They got zapped in the house where it was close to the property line. Works great on the 2 acres I have fenced now.

@Gumby and @jmkfj60 I have a big yard, about 3 acres for the dog to roam. Does the petsafe have a pretty constant range that it will zap them? The kit I saw comes with flags and it made me think about how to train if there really is not an exact invisible fence buried in the ground.

Both units have adjustable zap range. Three acres will require a lot more wire that comes in the pet safe kit. It's just wire. You don't need their branded wire. Use good connectors or you'll let all the green stuff out of the wires. 3 acres is worth turning it up to max range, about 15' on either side. Gives them lots of warning if they are chasing something. As I said, if they bust through its tough to get them to come back.

I am confused, I was thinking the pet safe unit we are talking about is wireless??

The petsafe I have has a buried wire on the perimeter.

Gotcha. I am looking for wireless recommendations. I have heard good things about them, and when you travel, or camp (with 120v) it would be nice to let dog roam and know they won't stray too far.

So it took my dog once to learn the boundary, never again tested it. They get a warning beep when they,re close. Even when I moved she learned the boundary without being shocked.

As far as three acres, if you want that much roaming space get the wired fence, the wireless won't cover that much.

We even take ours camping and dial in the boundary so she is confined to the camp site works perfect.

The one posted is the one we have.

Mine were trained by the guys who did the install. They start out training indoors, they flag an area to keep them out. My girl the Dane did great, Tank the Bull mastiff sat in the circle with his neck fat jiggling, he liked it. We had to turn the collars up on both dogs Tank is all the way up and she is a couple notches down from top. Part of the training is walking the perimeter with them, so they know. If they do go through call them immediately and when they come back in give positive reinforcement.

Guys that are running wireless systems is that a constant distance from the receiver in all directions? Do you have any interference with these with other devices?

I have a pet safe in ground fence for about 10 years now. At my previous property it covered approx 7ac. I bought the system that covers up to 25ac (not sure if it is still available). For wire I used a 14 gauge solid thhn from home depot. I think it came in 100ft. I suggest using a lightning protector on any system as I lost a controller once.

My new house covers about 1 ac. I had a lotof interference with the wired system picking up metal in the garage because the wire was close to the door. I had to adjust settings quite a bit and move the wire.

There is also a stubborn collar that you can get for the ppet safe system if you are having trouble with run throughs as I could not turn the boundary up anymore without interference.
