I'm rewiring my 1979 BJ40,

I don't need the glow plug light (resistor or whatever it's called) and want to remove it. As you can see in the pic the glow plug relay has three thick wires leaving it.

Black red is power directly from the battery.
Black yellow goes to the glow plugs.
Black is the return from the glow plug light.

The black yellow wire splices up in two wires, one goes to the plugs, the other one goes to the glow plug light.

The circuit for the light goes like this.

Glow plug relay - black yellow wire - glow plug light - black wire - glow plug relay.

Can I just remove the light and cut off the wires and be done with it or is there more to it?

Thanks.

Why do you want to remove the light ?

Never looked at it before the rewiring, and want to get rid of all the things in the wiring harness that I don't use.

And I'm too lazy to drill a hole in my new dash :flipoff2:

Well according to my drawing it is just an indicator in line. So i guess you can just cut it out. But you would have to join the wires together to complete the circuit.

By cutting it out you are only eliminating the indicator. You need the wiring from the timer to the GPrelay or else the relay won't operate properly.

I think this is how it works.

1. When you turn the key it sends a signal in the form of volts to the timer.
2. It leaves the timer then passes through the indicator.
3. After the indicator it goes into the relay where it creates a magnetic field that switches on the glow plugs.
4. When the timer stops sending the signal the circuit again becomes open and the glow plugs are turned off.

So you need the line but you can take the indicator light out if you wish.

I don't even think there is a timer, 'caus if I remember correctly ( it has been a couple of years since i drove this thing) when I pre heat the engine, I hear the glow plug relay click and it stays on as long as I keep the key in that position. So I think that there isn't a timer in my truck, just simple relay, but am not sure of it.

The time you spent looking on here you could have had the hole drilled.LOL

Well euhm, in the true cruiserhead spirit of act first think later, I have already cut out the light, but started thinking afterwards if there was more to it or not :o
So now it's not just a matter of drilling a hole but also cutting up wire crimps, soldering the wires back in, etc... So I'd prefer to not put it back in :D
